well go karts are the best chance, but if u prefer to race saloon cars for any reason, its your choice ya?
Go kart:
est about $7000 for the kart
est another $3000 for the safety equipment
U will probably have to find a karting team or group that can help u maintain n store yr go kart at the circuit for about $100-200 a month.
Everytime u run, u need to pay track rental which is per day. in sg, at kartworld, rental per day is $50+. Petrol would vary from team to team, at about $20+ to $30+. Other less frequent costs include tyres which lasts a month or 2 depending on compound hardness, at $200+ to $300 a set, chain lube at about $10+ a bottle, chains which cost about $30+ and can vary, depending on how well u maintain them and subject to breakages during accidents, and assorted mechanical parts. Generally the frequency of mechanical parts replacement is fairly low.
Cars:
Assuming u are looking at a 4WD TC car, it would cost u at least $100,000 for the car already. U would need to spend possibly $5000+ on yr personal safety equipment since equipment for cars are required by international racing rules to be of a higher standard, hence more ex.
U'd need to fit racing seats, a safety harness, and possibly a roll cage and extinguisher system for your car to be race compliant. That would possibly cost another... $10k? Then tyres one set of race tyres is probably near 4 digits. And because a car is 4 stroke while a kart engine is 2 strokes, there are more mechanical bits u need to tune up and or replace. Generally its going to be much more expensive.
The only pro of a car is that u have a mode of transport. But because its so expensive, when u start training yourself, u're more likely to make mistakes and the resulting cost of damage is much higher for a car than a go kart. Also, because its so expensive, u're less likely to try to push yourself to the limit in a car. Also if u're using that car for transport, u probably don't want to push your limits because u need it to go home.
In the end, a go kart is a much smarter choice and a better bet if u're serious about entering real professional racing.
