Hi,
anyone driving the civic 1.6? Any comment about the car?
Howz the power, the fuel and the accessories compare to the 1.8?

If you pay less, do you get more?
Maybe on the FC side lar, I won't argue with you on that. -

I've driven the 2006 Civic 1.6A for close to a month now.
The fuel consumption ranges from 11.9km/L(mainly city driving) to 16.9km/L (highway driving). On average, it clocks about 14-15km/L. -

But I can remember some figures offhand.
The civic 1.6 gives a power of 125bhp. This is a notch or 2 higher than its Japanese/Korean competitors(the other 1.6s normally give 107-109BHP), but bear in mind it is also heavier. Personally, I feel that if u wanna race, get the 1.8 or 2. Or wait for the Type R.
Accessories compared to 1.8? Besides the smaller engine displacement:
- it lacks HID lamps, indash 6-CD changer(u get an Alpine singledin model),
-Paddleshifts,
- Steering-wheel audio controls,
-Side mirror light indicators,
- and Aluminum rims(u get steel rims, nicer looking, arguably).
-1.6 gets electronic powered steering, compared to hydraulic for 1.8. (Note the 2.0 variant gets electronic steering too)
Otherwise, mechanically, the 1.6 engine is very similar to the 1.8 variant.
Overall, it is a good car. Great looks (beauty is in the eyes of the beholder). Quiet smooth engine. 5-speed auto transmission (competitors give 4!). Big on the outside and inside. Good build quality. Great suspension (independent wishbone!) Responsive steering. -

Oh one question, 14-15km/litre is really the norm? if so thats really excellent or perhaps even better then the award winning Corolla G9.

actually i kinda believe that.. i have a fren in a previous gen civic... vti manual... he visits 4krpm and 150 kmh quite regularly.. but he returns 14km/l ...
somehow honda 1.6 litre engines r pretty fuel efficient i guess.. -
Yes, the FC I get is always around 14km/L. Pretty consistent.
In fact, Honda Japan claims an FC of 17km/L for their 1.8 variant. Of course, these figures tend to be overestimated! =) -
Have driven the FD 1.8 for 2 months now.
My FC is surprisingly better than my 1.6 CVT Lancer despite bigger cc and heavier body.
let me calculate...
Lancer CVT = 9.7 to 10.5km/l best was 13km/l
FD = 11.6 to 12 km/l. Still too early for me to give conclusive mileage only got it for 3 months. -
how to race when the 1.8 only got 1 leg!

What is an e-throttle? Flipped thru the Civic catalogue and found nothing on it. Google only made me more confused. Mind educating me?

In a normal car, you stepping onto the gas pedal, pulls a wire than in turn pulls the throttle of the engine.
E-throttle means your gas pedal is electronic, so it should have a potentiometer which sense how much you step and in turn sends electronic signals to the engine to how much it should throttle.
That's why FD's pedal is like a foot-floor based pedal unlike normal cars where pedals are "suspended" by a metal bar. -
e-throttle got disadvantage...if the electronic malfuntion...u cant drive...if link by cable still can pull the throttle...

Honda should have some fail-safe mechanism.
Ain't it dangerous if your gas pedals fail when you are in highway or busy traffic?
If they want to avoid Class-action suit.. i guess they have some fail-safe in store.
But then, Honda ain't the first using e-throttle -

K. I have a feeling this Civic FD is designed to break the tradition that Civic has been an easy to mod car.
ANy of you guys did anything to mod the car?
Changing the bulb now is pain in the a$s to start off. Non-H4 and access to bulb area from wheel well. First time i hear. -
my family got the 1.8 Auto..
drinks petrol like mad.. why ah?
and, we got a 8 year 1.6 Mazda 323, fuel is 10km/L.. why is it so low? -
