In light of the recent news regarding the rapes etc.
It seems that even after the police have arrested 14 people, rapes continue.
(Refer to chit chat for the articles or NST online)
singapore registered cars entering JB over the weekend has already dropped but many are still risking it by entering JB.
Guys will be whacked and girls will be raped.
For your own safety, pls avoid JB for the time being as even the malaysians themselves can't control the situation.
The police are apparently not much of a deterrance.
Anyone here still going into JB in the near future? -
yea..sad..our neighbours are bad..
my mom is afraid of going there..
my dad goes there everyday to buy new ICE system..ha..and yes..almost everyday..
but i dun think i will avoid JB..

I had a couple of friends, they're Malaysians, living in Johor. They got mugged by a group in freaking broad daylight. This happened @ City Square. They were threatened @ knife point then brought to a stairwell where they were robbed of cash & handphones.
If that happens to Johor residents, then think of what they could do to us Singaporeans, who come in to shop, carrying lots of cash, expensive personal items. If you really need to go there for what ever reason.., go in a large group. Not worth the risk just to get cheaper stuff, not even petrol... -

I would choose not to go there as much as possible. my choice is... car straight to KL.. if i have to go m'sia la.. but definitely not jb.. not anytime soon anyway

for those planning to take bus 170 into jb thinking that if u dont drive, u will die, is grossly wrong.
those farkers have HIV needles and guns and they will jack u in public and bring u to private space such as staircase etc in FULL view of the public ( they dont dare to help u ) and your passport and $$ etc will be robbed.
if u are unlucky, u got Stung by the HIV needle like my fren -
just go there pump cheap petrol and leave like my friend drive a MPV pump there twice a week his monthly saving is close to $200 even after deductin toll charge.
Cos Singapore petrol after discount 1.50 while Msia is 80cent only -
I don't think these buggers just target anyone.. they must have observe you for quite a while. in short, why waste effort?
for me, if I were to go, maybe, I will try to bend in by wearing non-branded, and maybe having just small changes in my wallet so anyone taking a quick look when I am paying will realize that I am not a worthwhile target lor. -

What can you buy or eat with just small change? Curry puff, sweets, teh-o?? If that is the case, better dun go there, you can buy them stuff in SG.
Anyway, they won't believe you come to JB with just small change. They probably thought you may have big change stuffed somewhere in you. So they corner you, whip out knives, beat you up and force you to produce your big change. Let's say you really brought along small change just to buy sweets, teh-o and curry puff at JB, these guys will still have beaten you up. Furthermore, they will get incensed when they discovered that you are a real cheapo.....they will probably stick a knife into you for being a cheapo and wasting their valuable time in picking out the wrong target!

the assailants drive around randomly and bang the rear of cars that "look" like good targets. ALL cars are eligible, singapore or msians. And in all cases, they usually involve having a girl in the car.
(Like the couple one they saw bf and gf in car, bang and took necessary actions to rob and rape)
and the other point is that all the "identified" victims are chinese (fact of the case) and the "identified" assailants have all been malay so far (fact of the case). the msian government has urged the public not to turn this into a racial matter even though those are the facts. if u have seen any other articles that identiy the victims or assailants as otherwise pls let me noe so i can edit this paragraph cos i might have missed some articles..
but facts are facts, so if you're chi u will be more likely a target i guess?
so ya nobody's gonna noe how much u really have and they dont really care either. it's a whack first, check later.
for girls its worse, cos once u look "edible", they will bite. -
People I know have been packing metal baseball bats in their cars when driving into MY.
Generally speaking, I don't think the robbers would want to mess with these people that I know.
The crap will hit the fan when the Chinese community in JB start feeling that it's a race issue, and it will be horrendous. -

There is no one taman ( town ) which are spared. even towns with guards and gated community are known to have thieves and house-breakers in the middle of the night.
The security guards there cannot be trusted. many work together with the robbers. The police are worse. They are working toether with the robbers.
many bank robberies have security guards and policemen giving information to help in the robberies.
malaysia is hopeless. Southern Johor Raping Region has taken place. -
Have you visited Taman Sutera Utama? It, and the new Horizon Hills, may be two of the best places to live in. Taman Sutera Utama is quite safe compared to other Taman in Tun aminah. A public robbery of a proton wira happened near Sutera Utama one night by 3 gangsters with parangs. The attack was about 500m away from Sutera utama.
Sutera Utama has break-ins too. I have friends staying there and his house was burgled in the middle of the night. The house is valued twice higher than ordinary houses but its relatively SAFER, though not 100% safe.
There are decent security guards and perhaps the fact that Capitaland and keppeland has stake in it probably increased its reputation and professional attitude. -

Think singaporeans should have seen that deserted huge buliding along the main road. -
Hmmmm...... I use that route (Gelang Patah to Bukit Indah) almost every night. Of course, I seldom traveled at 22:30. I was at the Horizon Hills work site during its launch. Might buy a 2.5 story unit facing the golf course, but only if I have half a million Sing dollars............. Living in a 22x70 "zoo" with grilles everywhere isn't fun, just that it might not be possible to get an equivalent "zoo" in Singapore even with a million Sing dollars. -

Is it 24-hour gated and guarded by Taman Sutera Utama? If the concept is the same, I think Horizon Hill could take off, being in a location near to 2nd link. Sutera is a bit further in although Sutera is quite near to both 2nd link and JB custom and supported by Temasek Holdings.
When u talk about using gelang patah roads to bukit indah, do u use bikes or car? Sometimes i drive in using 2nd link at 8pm plus.. total darkness but at least there are still people working in Singapore returning home to skudai, bukit indah etc.
there are indeed quite a few dead ends along gelang patah that side.. some of them just run below the highway... during daytime, try to observe to your left and see if there are any roads running below.
Its a pity that the couple was robbed and injured really. But I must agree that sometimes when driving to Singapore at Gelang patah side around 8pm plus, some stretch of the road I am alone and total darkness for around 1 minute. Quite dangerous I must say.
Hope to share more with u dude because you seem quite enriched about the lifestyle there like me and a few good friends in forums.
p/s: dont buy horizon hill. if got spare cash, buy a lot at sutera utama. by next year this time u will know why.

You can check the Horizon Hills website at http://www.horizonhills.com.my/. 22x70 is the lot size of my current zoo-like house. If I have half a million Sing dollars, I might move to a 2.5 story unit without grilles at Horizon Hills............
Expected to be similar to Taman Sutera Utama. You can see some of the past housing areas built by the developer at http://www.gamuda.com.my/gamuda03/competencies_township.htm. Bandar Botanic might have had some bad publicity (which can be found on the Internet) in the past, but the others looked good. The monthly security fee should be about 200 ringgit, similar to that of Taman Sutera Utama.

Half a million singapore dollars is quite expensive for a house in johor really.
i think the most expensive taman sutera utama 3 storey semi-bunglow costs about RM 800K at most. its really huge with foundain, pond and garage...think its all sold out.
you see, in malaysia, there are many chinese who are damn rich.. they are the business-owners who literally control the economy in malaysia. -
If you are from the second link highway, upon reaching the first traffic light, go straight. You will pass a Bukit Indah 2 security booth. Continue to go straight. You will see the big Horizon Hills sign. It should be about three minutes of drive from the highway. In the satellite image below, it is the empty space at the bottom.
