Yes..quite a big difference..but once again, it depends on what kind of 4WD system is it..if it's a full-time 4WD, then FC will be bad..if it's only part-time like in a Honda CR-V, then FC close to FWD standard..
Full-time 4WD means at any point in time, all wheels will have some power from the engine no matter what..it only depends on how the gearbox splits the power..it may be in the ratio of 80:20, 70:30, 60:40 or 50:50 front to back..and if front wheels lose grip, gearbox shift more power to rear wheels..
Part-time 4WD means most of the time power is split 100:0 front to back..so it's like a FWD..but when slip at the front wheels is detected, power will be shifted to the rear wheels..But under normal driving conditions, it usually stays in FWD mode with power VERY RARELY transmitted to rear wheels..
I forgot whether the 4WD system in the RAV4 is a full- or part-time 4WD system..better check with the dealer..if it's part-time 4WD, FC will be much better than full-time 4WD..
