i do not own a car, but used to be a car freak and dream about drifting, had a malaysia friend my "sifu" he had an old mr2 SW20 which he will just try drifting on. on one of his virgin drifting attempts he tried to drift his car on a (empty road) he didnt counter steer in time and because the MR2 engine is placed relatively behind in the car chasis thus seems to have a heavier momentum for the butt of the car to swing out, he lost control and did a spin onto the oncoming lane, thank god it was an empty road! on that super old car, which he bought for 20KRM

eventually he said he gave up drifting, said it was an rich mans sport.tires will burn out, stress on the driveshaft. need to firm up the suspension and add torsion bars and stuff to experience properly. so he went to a new thing quarter mile racing! lol.
anyway want to see crazy drifting or learn, theres a famous drifter, the drift king keiichi tsuchiya (thats how its spelt i think) he has a series, "the drift bible" teaches you all sorts of drifting on each specific types of stock cars. Rx7 180sx rx8 mx5 s2000 etc. i think torrents can be found.
in fact he has i think over 10 different ways of drifting, from hand brake, to hard braking drifting, going into the turn at great speed (power over), theres even wierd ones like a clutch jump where you down a gear without slowing down causing your wheels to momentarily jerk (propably bad for transmission) and thus losing traction (i think only for rear wheel driven cars though) also there are techniques of making your cars drift by staying inside of a driving line then back out to the proper line before a turn making your car unstable thus inducing a loss of traction (im not sure if this is right, i know its called kansei drifting or something) and crazy ones such as jump drifting and using grass outside of the road to drift your car!!! these ones ive seen on a website though not by KT pioneered by some european country)
sigh only wish singapore had a proper place for motorsport culture and to drift. and if cars arnt so EX!! i only riding motorbike

OK first and foremost, there is only one kind of car that is suitable for drifting, namely 2 wheel drive kind of car (rear) -- meaning only the two rear wheels are spinning when accelerator is activated. 2 wheel drive kind of car (front) is also ok but will not give optimum drift. 4 wheel drive kind of car -- forget about drifting.
Steps to take when drifting (I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE STEPS, ONLY AGAGA ONLY, IF SERIOUSLY WANT TO LEARN GO CONSULT A PROFESSIONAL)
Manual Car:
1) U are at gear 4 - 5 (relatively high speed 70-80km/h)
2) Encounter a turn, I think need to pull parking brake first
3) Shift gear from 4 to 3 (i.e. one gear down) --> drifting should occur
4) When finish the drift, up-gear back to 4
5) release parking brake

Before you even start, you should be looking for second hand tyres sponsers and a good workshop first.
The hardwares will be burning and slipping like siao...
Just imagine after a session of 2 hrs drifting..u get go change your engine oil already cos by then already black like hell..
All these would not be an issue if you have lots of $$ to spare...
If wanna see, sometimes, there are some pple doing practice at the car park outside Punggol Marina..maybe can try your luck there.. but dun try on public road...Seen before in the middle of a nigh how a vios try power slide ended up wrap around a lamp post...(PS: I was behind the stop line waiting for the light to turn green ) -
