i own a m3sp and a picnic.
and i really think that its unnecessary to flame a car make.
personally, if i'm rather cash tight, but i know that owning a 7 seater can ferry my grandparents, kids, maid and wife around, i'll also own a 7 seater like hafei minz
it cost 19,990, i drive it on weekends to the beach for picnic, family outing.
YES it may not be reliable. but so wat? A tow truck is a phone call away. And Come on... i dont believe it'll break down every time. be realistic. Chances of a COE car breaking down, imho, is higher.
Insurance is cheap, road tax is cheap, petrol is insignificant. YES i'm ready to get flamed. Think about it. It is OPC. even though it only gives 8km/litre, how much difference can it be? $50 a month? Btw, my picnic is 8km/litre too.
Also, dont forget that it is made like a van, tat means most spare parts should be rather cheap.
It comes with 3 years warranty and it cant go really fast becos of weak engine, all the better, u cant speed in that car and the impact of accidents will be mitigated.
Imo, there's a higher chance of a young driver dying in a fast car like mx5 compared to a driver of a china car.
Therefore, I tink that WHATTODO has done his sums properly before buying this hafei minz. And I bet he's feeling really good now cos he still has lots of spare cash to go for holidays etc and at the same time, bring his family out for an outing every weekend, rain or shine, peak or non peak. -

so let say 3 years down the road, every 3 days you car break down getting sick and you dont mind calling a tow break every 3 days again?
don't compare about mx5 to a china made car. its a totally different class and entirely different car.
if you want to compare, get 2 cars. do a similar crash test for both cars, i can bet with you mx5 will surely fare 3912739127 times better than the hafei.
if you talking about high speed accident, of course it's fatal but first of all, hafei cant even reach the speed of mx5. so dont talk about which 1 is bound to get accident more.
we're talking about safety.
if you really want to save money so much and blah blah blah. why did you get a picnic and m3sp? you should have jolly well get a Van or Lorry, convert it to a mpv. you can save even much more. at the end for your case, it's just down class and status also as in why in the first place you choose your rides instead of china made car.

wah so you dont mind being in a traffic jam along the expressway coz' a hafei was speeding at 80 on lane 1 then broke down 3yrs down the road lah.
and make that an everyday occurence shud more ppl buy it. -

I'm not comparing the safety features of mx5 versus hafei. I'm comparing the consequences of accidents... many high profile deaths have been caused by evo & mx5 etc, honestly, have u heard of any fatal accident concerning a china car in SINGAPORE?
And u made a biased and preposterous argument about reliability. U asked me if i'll be contended calling a tow truck every few days. The answer is pretty obvious I Won't. But, why make a baseless statement regarding its reliability?

you know why there are not any accidents in singapore with regards to china car?
cause the market for china cars is still new, probably 2 years or so and many people still have the impression that japanese are the better car manufacturers thus not much people buy china cars.
just like comparing iPod Video/Mini/Nano/Shuffle to those you can see in sls which are of similar designs to the iPods. but why does people still buy the iPod gadgets instead of the "fake" china products? that's because people dont know whether these products are reliable or not, are there even a proper service centre for faulty products even though it's cheap.
it takes time and effort + engineering perfection till the day whereby singaporean can accept that china cars of equal standard to japanese cars.
like i said search for videos of similar crash tests, you see the results. most probably inside hafei, you will be paralysed for life. whereas for mx5 or evo, you will break your rig cages or what but still able to work for the rest of your life.
and i also said IF you really want to save money if you comprehend my statement wrongly.
so you want to talk about consequence of accidents. obviously there are higher profile accidents when mx5 and evo are concerned.
what's hafei top speed? 100km/h? so let say you floor your throttle all the way, i think by the time you reach the next traffic light its speedometer may only register a merely 40 - 50 km/h.
let's talk about mx5 and evo, it's top speed and acceleration? with higher speed and higher acceleration, obviously there are bound to be accidents right? just like the logic for demand and supply.
and if you are a normal human being, you bought a china car. do you think you will speed and try to cut corners at high speed? the answer is NO, cause you will be so scare that the chasis cannot handle that kind of speed and you might overturn.
if you bought a evo in the first place, do you think you will speed and try to cut corners at high speed thinking you can handle it? the answer is YES, cause it's a sport car it's meant to do what it's suppose to do. and when this shyt happens, accidents occur whereby you lose control of you car.

When I wanted to start my small business a few years ago, I got lots of such bashing from everyone. A few called me stupid, daft blah blah. Some said I am doomed to fail my business and sacrificed a well paying office job.
i mean, they may have a good point. they quoted many examples. read many stories etc.
But at the same time, i did lots of research. i wanted to give it a go because i am not contended with a fixed salary monthly. i am a little of a risk love u can say.
Right now, I dare not boast about being well-off blah blah. But my business is decent and can afford me a good life, a private house and 2 jap cars.
somehow i seem to reconcile these 2 things... WHATTODO does his sum properly, he absolutely loves the car, especially at such a cheap price. it hasnt given him much of a problem but u guys are predicting that he's bound to die in a traffic accident (metaphorically), his car will break down everyday after 3 years blah blah.
ultimately, i am sure the person with the last laugh is the person who saves the most money. NOT the person who donates the most to the government. -

lemme give u a good eg. the dodge viper which was supposedly due to launch in SG had come to pass why? cos the car failed the LTA insp...I am very very sure that this has got NOTHING to do with safety standards...the viper at least has a 3.5-4 star NCAP crash test rating if i'm correct....so that proves my point abt the LTA passing the car mainly cos of emissions and NOT coz of safety standards....
