if really want to drive, and just for cheap transpot,
get a small cc COE car, to reduce 150% road tax, simple car cheap to maintain, not much problematic. Pay cash down, so no interest, agreement fees etc. Buy third party insurance, and drive safe. dun go so much to CBD.
Get a car like Starlet, etc. i think ur budget 500 should be no prob.
but of coz u should choose the car that is reasonably good.
if sway sway something bad happen, dun repair if minor damage, if major damage, scrap the car and get back the paper value.

During NSF, u have not much time to drive, so patrol, parking, ERP will not be so much. and no need to show off, so cheap own transport is possible. you also dun have long loan commitment on car loan.
during my school, my car budget was less than 500 and was really fine. i live in EC outside city area, free parking at school, when go to city once a while usually in evenings or weekends. patrol + parking never reached 200.
