erm noOriginally posted by spadeTwo:ts so song...
young young can drive such cars liao.
im green with envy.
yea thats what i thoughtOriginally posted by iaintmad:I'd go for mazda.
Girls go for style, not power
rx-8 modded would definately be a chick magnet
Power of an engine is divided into two figures..one is horsepower (bhp) and the other one is torque (Nm)..both are equally important for acceleration and top speed..but if you want fast acceleration, a car with good torque will be good..In the case of the RX-8's rotary engine, torque ain't that good as is notorious with rotaries..so if you want good acceleration in the RX-8, you'll have to go all the way with the gas pedal..which equals to high fuel consumption..Originally posted by Agenda:yea thats what i thought
anyone care to explain whats the difference between power, torque and engine cap?![]()

so if the engine capacity is high, it has the ability to accelerate faster or ?Originally posted by alleggerita:Power of an engine is divided into two figures..one is horsepower (bhp) and the other one is torque (Nm)..both are equally important for acceleration and top speed..but if you want fast acceleration, a car with good torque will be good..In the case of the RX-8's rotary engine, torque ain't that good as is notorious with rotaries..so if you want good acceleration in the RX-8, you'll have to go all the way with the gas pedal..which equals to high fuel consumption..
But I would think the RX-8 will still outperform the Accord Euro-R because no matter what, the RX-8's Renesis Rotary still has more power overall..
Engine capacity is the space where fuel and air mixture combusts in the cylinders..The space between the cylinders and pistons added up will be the total capacity of the engine..
E.g.: If one cylinder has a space of about 500cc and the engine has 4 cylinders, it has an engine capacity of 2.0-litres..
Higher engine capacity usually equates to more power because with more fuel and air mixture burnt, more power is produced..
not true....it all depends on many factors....compression,cylidner head design, size of valves, valve timing, duration and overlap etc...u can have a big engine but with rubbish BHP...take the 1983 camaro RS for instance...it had a 5.0L engine but with a puny 170BHP!!!Originally posted by Agenda:so if the engine capacity is high, it has the ability to accelerate faster or ?
thanks for the reply!
That's why I say higher engine capacity USUALLY equates to higher power output..but may not be true..Originally posted by AE86tofu:not true....it all depends on many factors....compression,cylidner head design, size of valves, valve timing, duration and overlap etc...u can have a big engine but with rubbish BHP...take the 1983 camaro RS for instance...it had a 5.0L engine but with a puny 170BHP!!!
u can have a big engine with below avg bhp but huge torque.....Originally posted by AE86tofu:not true....it all depends on many factors....compression,cylidner head design, size of valves, valve timing, duration and overlap etc...u can have a big engine but with rubbish BHP...take the 1983 camaro RS for instance...it had a 5.0L engine but with a puny 170BHP!!!
Even Merc's 7G-tronic gearbox shudders to see AMG's 5.4-litre V8 supercharged engine..just imagine that amount of torque..Originally posted by n0x:u can have a big engine with below avg bhp but huge torque.....
look at merc amg engine...
he is asking abt acceleration not top speed...![]()
cannot lidat say.Originally posted by alleggerita:That's why I say higher engine capacity USUALLY equates to higher power output..but may not be true..![]()
I always support more torque..I never say I want more bhp..Originally posted by spadeTwo:cannot lidat say.
some engineers tuned them to have more torque than bhp or vice versa although you can actually strike a balance. IMO, having all the BHP is useless in singapore, you cant go that fast, having more torque is more important.![]()
whats 7G-tronic har??Originally posted by alleggerita:Even Merc's 7G-tronic gearbox shudders to see AMG's 5.4-litre V8 supercharged engine..just imagine that amount of torque..![]()
turbocharge got turbolag.Originally posted by alleggerita:I always support more torque..I never say I want more bhp..
So I think I will like turbocharged engine the best..![]()
7 gears auto transmissionOriginally posted by iaintmad:whats 7G-tronic har??![]()
With new variable vane turbocharger technology, turbo lag can now be reduced to a minimum..so much so that you literally can't feel any turbo lag anymore..Originally posted by spadeTwo:turbocharge got turbolag.
i prefer NA.![]()
then u must as well say supercharge,Originally posted by alleggerita:With new variable vane turbocharger technology, turbo lag can now be reduced to a minimum..so much so that you literally can't feel any turbo lag anymore..![]()
But turbocharger until high revs still got effect..supercharger once reach high revs like not much use liao..Originally posted by spadeTwo:then u must as well say supercharge,
sounds nice and in actual fact, more fierce also.![]()
got lah. some cheapo cars red line is @ 6k rpm, very easy can reach...Originally posted by alleggerita:But turbocharger until high revs still got effect..supercharger once reach high revs like not much use liao..
Added: But oh well, I guess cars in SG will rarely see the redline anyways..![]()
tt is if u r talking abt those huge turbos.. but the lag will be damn obvious cos it needs more exhaust pressure to spool.....Originally posted by alleggerita:But turbocharger until high revs still got effect..supercharger once reach high revs like not much use liao..
