why some cars the speedometer in the center?

like toyota vios, hyundai matrix....
like that we can't see the speedometer and we dun know we got exceed the speed limit or not -
i hate this type of designs.

And, if you cannot keep an eye on your speedo AND drive, I suggest maybe letting someone else drive instead. -

the dials faces the driver.. there is no reason why the driver cannot see...
unless u r the passenger... then u want to see the speedometer for what??? -

oh yea, i noticed some speedos for MINI are in front of the driver instead of being smacked right in the middle for everyone in the cabin to see. why's that? -

I believe ya referring to the newer Minis (R50/R52/R53). The speedo and tacho meter are right in front of the driver behind the steering wheel, while the big centre display shows the oil pressure, oil temperature, coolant temperature and fuel gauge, plus other engine warning lights. I remember car manufacturers said that such meters allow drivers to glance at them easily. For people with long-sightedness, it is supposed to help shorten response time - or so they claim.
However, if such design is so good, why aren't all our cars like that?

I taking practical lessons for Class 3 now at CDC..they using the Toyota Vios 1.5M to teach..I got no problem looking at the speedo/tacho leh..
The best would be BMW's HUD kind of display.. -
