New Car Run In

  Hi couldn't find this in the stickies so started this. Would like to gather some pointers regarding this. My rough impression is to stay below 3k rpm and 100kmh for the maiden 10000km, is this accurate? Btw it's an auto.
  
  Not mine btw, it's my dad's. So no way that I'm flaunting. Just want to be a filial son heez. Good boy gets the keys.

  Yes, try to let the engine and other moving parts run in. But not for 10 000km which is frankly too much. Try not to exceed 3500 RPM for the first 1000km. After that, the engine should be 'ran in'.

  by right and left... car already ran in.. cars have high rev dyno tests after assembly to see if its safe for consumers..

  for latio its break in period is 1600km
  
  dont rev over 4k,
  
  dont keep at a constant speed for a long time
  
  try not to do hard braking.
  
  do not tow anything

  Yea, and read the car manual.. SHould have info regarding running-in.

  Seriously, i would say that it's all rubbish. You can forget about running in your car.
  
  Do you have any idea how many times your car has been driven before from the moment it was tested in the factory to the shipping process? Do you think those guys really care about keeping the RPM below a certain number? Especially those guys doing the shipping... Efficiency is the key.

  Sorry, i would like to correct myself... If you are getting for yourself a supercar... and i really mean supercar and not luxury cars.... then the cars will be shipped in individual containers... Not much driving involved in the shipping process...

  Haha my brother works as a car jockey and trust me, your new cars are well run-ed in by the time they reach the dealers.

  I would say just drive normally. Accelerate as you need, brake as conditions demand. But if it makes you feel better, just don't redline the car during the first 1000km.

  Ya sorry my bad for mistakenly including an extra zero. 10k km is impossible, it's gonna take like what, half a year?

  Well although there are some who shed light on cars being already run in by the time they reach the end consumer, I think it's still better to be kiasu and err on the safe side.

  Just keep to the speed limit. Sure no problem. Speeding if unlucky, tio TP. So, as you said, must be kiasu abit. Better safe than sorry!

  is kiasi. muz b kiasi so wont tio tp. not kiasu. but different ppl say differently. some ppl don care abt run in. they rev hard when still runnin in in order to clear the bits of metal quicker and thus after runnin in, the engine is smooth. its true, its smooth. but i think tat shorten the engine life.

  Then I still don't understand why Japanese cars still need to change engine oil after first 1,000km when Continental cars straightaway go on to 10,000km before first engine oil change is needed..
  
  Is it because Continental cars more well 'ran-in' than Japanese cars before it's handed over to customers?

  maybe there had an oil changed already? read of those jap's car engine oil for first 500~1000km is quite dirty..
  
  oh ya, running in isnt about maintainin ur rpm below 4k, it's about VARYing ur rpm from 1000 to 6500rpm... speed dun matters, it's the rev that matters.. drive hard is okay, just don't everytime go anywhere oso redline at every gear change.. if car so easy spoil, it will have spoilt when the car jockey transfer the car to the ship and down the ship..

  one drive to KL will get u 400 km, minimum.
  
  coming back another 400.
  
  u have 800 km liao.

  LOLXXX but to me i also prefer to lose petrol juz to hit 1000km. run in beri sian 1 leh. cannot rev all tat. boring. my car tat time 1 week nia 1000km liao in sg. muz chiong then after tat aim for 5000km. then 10,000. can rev liao.
