Yea Sports Mode for transmission is kinda rare, maybe
manufactorers prefer to opt for Tiptronic...

Okay. To make this clear, Quattroporte first started selling
with only an automated manual gearbox and a manual gearbox. I think
Maserati calls their automated manual gearboxes Cambiacorsa (maybe
wrong spelling?). Automated manual gearboxes as in they are
actually manual gearboxes with clutch, but there is no clutch
pedal. Because eletronics will take care of the clutch for you and
thus it can shift automatically but it's essentially a manual.

Thereafter, Maserati decided to fit the QPs with ZF 6-speed
torque convertor automatic gearboxes to make it more relaxing and
comfortable to drive. So now the QP is available with 3 different
gearboxes if I'm not wrong. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it uses the same gearbox system as Ferraris
- The sequential gearbox. It uses some software in the ECU to
change gear I think. Somewhat the same as Triptroic. Just different
names I guess.

Well, the cars that I have driven and used the + and - (if I

Mitsubishi Galant and Lexus IS250

So for these cars, you don't have to release the accelerator,
but as you can see I only have the chance to drive Jap cars, if
yours is a special or conti car then I won't know liao, sorry!

And of course, there's paddle shifts which is found in most
European cars and is now increasingly common on Japanese's too.(i.e
new Mazda 6 and Lancer EX GT).

So u dont have to upshift at the gearstick but instead toggle at
the steering wheel paddle shifters to have a F1 feel<img src=

And actually the whole purpose of manual override is to provide
more engine braking, that's all.

It doesn't help much with acceleration, unless you go study the
power graph of your engine and determine where's the best point to
upshift.

For most auto gearbox with manual override function, it will
automatically upshift at redline. But for some marques, they prefer
to make it more manual-like so it holds on to the gear even if it's
at the redline. BMW's auto gearbox with manual function is one
example. It will not shift up unless you ask it to.

So the main purpose is to let you nudge "-" to downshift and
achieve greater engine braking. So it's made to downshift, don't be
afraid to do it. It most probably won't damage the gearbox because
its processor will know what to do to achieve downshift.

Don't think i'll get serious enough to study charts and
graphs.

Try it once and see what happens.

No need say reduce speed first then downshift. Just release
accelerator then can downshift already. If the gearbox is good
enough, it might even blip the throttle for you.
