Okay, thanks alot.
The following cars will be under consideration:
Okay some questions.
Oh and please, try not to consider cars with rear drums...all round discs are at least future proofed
Explain rear drums/round discs(Where they are found; function, etc.)
mercedes c200
How does the Mercz c200 fare against the C180? What's the difference?
The C180 and C200 both have similar engine, it's just that their supercharger runs different tune to produce different power outputs. Both have 1.8-litre engines, but the C180 has 156hp while the C200 has 184hp. That's the only difference.
And I would recommend you get the C280 instead over the 325i. The new C-Class has been very well-received and road testers that tested it all think that it triumphs the current 3-Series in nearly every department, especially exterior and interior design and handling. And the C-Class, no matter what, is a newer model compared to the current 3-Series.

i rekon the c230 would be a much better comparison ... no???

agree with u. anyway TS, drum and disc = brakes. just different kinds. drums are generally used in older generation cars. discs are the way to go now cuz of 1)their stopping power, 2)servicibility and 3) everyone is using them now. old birds, correct me if im wrong on that one.
from the 5 choices u listed above, i will go for either the 325 or C class, but will be looking at the c280 at least. just for the power. =)

Yup,but if you are considering a European car, there's no need to worry about drums because all european car generally have all round discs due to their technological advancement.
Drums are only found in certain cheap Japanese cars(there's no definite link between cost and the brakes) which some of them n0x listed in his list such as the Selphy so i though of pointing that out.
So if you agree on the C class, its now on the engine capacity preference,if you prefer a simple 1.8 engine, the 180 and 200 will suit you while the 230 and 280 is the way to go for 2.5l-3l capacity range
Why nobody mentioned Leuxs? I think Lexus is a great car. For your budget, maybe you could get an IS250 or if you want a more powerful and bigger version, get the GS300.
Lexus are very luxurious inside and personally I think they are quite nice looking. They may be part of Toyota but they feel very european. Since you prefer European cars, why not get a Lexus, a tried and tested Toyota reliability and European quality/style.
But so far, I think the lowest engine capacity is the IS250 2.5litre. So if you want to deviate from your 1.6-2.0 range. A Lexus IS250 is a very good buy. The IS250 base model cost around 135k. The IS250 is a strong contender to the BMW 3 series.
Good luck in choosing your cars. You are 1 lucky kid who get to choose nice cars when you are young.

Thanks, have so far understood enough to make a proper choice, will keep reading and will post up my selected car when I buy it(tentatively in the next couple of months)
Thanks alot to all those who have contributed.
Somehow, looking @ your list, I think I already know which car you are gonna end up with. lol
Anyone of the above cars would serve you well. They are all good cars. Might I suggest you go get a couple of car mags for a read. Do not get any of the local rubbish for they are mostly paid advertisements and are only good for getting the car's stats. Then again they sometimes get even that wrong too.
Enjoy!
lol mz6 ah? TS, lexus is a good choice but since u mentioned max 2L, i didnt suggest lexus. i personally like toyota, lexus and merc. if u get liao, meet up k? lol

Hmm, true. But if it comes to power output and acceleration figures, the C280 is closer to the 325i. And won't you think the power output and acceleration of the C230 is too close to the C200K? Making the C230 seem not worth it for the extra money. Might as well stretch a bit more for the C280 instead. ![]()

Then the new Audi A4 will be a good choice too!
And Gosu was talking about the VW Passat isn't it? I would recommend TS to wait for the VW Passat CC.

hmm...
but when it comes to comparision.. wldnt it be fair tt u compare 2 cars with same capacity and not same output figures...
these 2 engines are NA engines.... so if mercedes needs a bigger engine than bmw to generate a similar output... then i suppose the review u read wasnt really credible... LOL
i have a feeling its from autocar or torque...

Not really, just my own thinking. Haha. ![]()

hmm... i beg to differ...
audi provides a good alternative to those who are 'weary' of the usual bmw or merc...
but they only have cars in FF or quattro... so if i were to buy a base model... i wun get their quattro system and have to settle with the FF drivetrain...
like i mentioned in my previous post.. if i am to pay like 140k for a car... it better have a prop shaft underneath to direct the power to the rear wheels.. with the engine mounted longitudinally under its long bonnet and the differential btw the rear axle so tt my car has a near 50:50 weight distribution.. LOL..
i know of someone who bought an A6 for 170k ard 2 years back... i was thinking... he could have gotten the 5 series for tt price....
well to each his own i suppose...
if FF is not a bother to TS... i do suggest taking a look at Saab...
yea i agree if wanna get audi, get the quattro version. no point pay so much and get ff.
saab is quite a nice choice too. like their cushion! very nice. but i still prefer the new C class and CL versions.

OMG, Saab can't be better than Audi isn't it? Interior quality I mean. ![]()
And the A6 can't be that bad isn't it? In 2006, it was the CoTY right?
Originally posted by alleggerita:OMG, Saab can't be better than Audi isn't it? Interior quality I mean.
LOL.. i din say audi interior is inferior to saab... and my intention wasnt to compare the interior...
but i do know hardcore enthusiasts swear by their saab...![]()
the interior is drive orientated like an airplane's C0ckpit...
and bcos of the turbo charging... the torque curve of an engine is super flat.. i know cos i have seen a dyno chart of it b4...
i think it sorta started the trend cos nowadays conti cars (eg. 335i) have fact sheets tt say max torque from 1800-6000 rpm...

it wasnt bad.. it wasnt bad at all...
thing is about getting value for money..
if audi were to priced their entry level cars slightly below tt of a 5 series or e class... then perhaps it makes sense...
or perhaps pple who buy into tt segment of cars has too much money to blow tt they dun care abt these kinda details...LOL
agree with nox, audi is actually a good car. but too bad the army is using it, making it a little common too if u get a white audi a4. as for the interior, i think the saab is actually better? cuz when i was in the army, my comd drives a saab and he has an audi assigned to him. managed to compare the interior, side by side. but i think for overall quality, audi would be better? just feel/think so.
