Hey.. My brother bought a new Mazda Demio (Mazda 2 - 2007) for only 3 months but seems to have some problems now.
Yesterday when he was driving, the car begin to jerk, but not those violent type of jerk. I was sitted beside my bro and I saw the orange color indicator lighted up. And there'a a word "HOLD" flashing too.
He drove to the nearest petrol station for help and the staff checked the front. Engine oil is enough, battery water is enough, the coolant also enough... so what is the problem?
Can anyone possibly pinpoint what is wrong with the car? Could it be the "computerised thingy" which cause these problems????
err.. bring back to MM?
The car already sent to the mechanics.... I post this becos i was hoping to find out more, if anything, tips that can come in handy to prevent such things from happening again.
Simple! Go to your nearest Mazda dealer right away. If your Mazda is a manual, the jerking is quite normal if you clutch control is not so good. But a flashing "HOLD" light? Never heard before. The "HOLD" is not supposed to flash. Oh wait, since it has a "HOLD", it must be an automatic then. Sorry about the manual part.
But since it's jerking, and if it's auto, it could be a transmission problem. And the "HOLD" is also linked to the transmission. So it is most likely a transmission problem or some electornics problem.
Go to the Mazda dealer as soon as possible. You wouldn't want to be stranded in the middle of the road with a susupected broken transmission.

jz ask him to bring back to mazda and check...
but looking at the HOLD, im guessing the car has a HOLD button/function so jz look for it and switch it off... so ask him go take a look...
Yup its a auto car.
My bro cant go to them (Singapore Mazda) becos his car is a parallel import.
For the same car, Singapore Mazda calls it Mazda 2.
For import, its call Mazda Demio.
When u look at the back of the car, you can see the difference of those words.
What could possibly cause those transmission/ electronic problems???

oh its a PI...
HOLD?
is it the small button at the gearbox there?
No, the word "HOLD" lighted up beside the speedometer.
I dont think there's a button at the gear there...
I'm not sure. But if your Bro has been rough with the auto tranny - (eg... selecting reverse if the car is not fully stationery or constantly putting it into Neutral when at the traffic lights")
My dad has a Mazda 2 (3 years old) and so far it hasn't been a problem. I'm really not sure what your problem is. And you bought it from a parallel importer? That's bad, some of their after sales service are attrocious. There's some Shell petrol kiosk that services Mazdas. Try the one along Commonwealth Ave (near Queenstown MRT) if your current workshop is problematic.
But I'm still wondering why you bought it from PI when Mazda Motors's version is quite good (top end version). If cost is an issue then I understand. Anyway, hope your problems can be solved soon :)

check liao? confirm? cos normally some cars got hold button/function and its will lite up when pressed...
The "HOLD" button is like the overdrive button in other auto car. In normal situations, you need to press that small button at the gear stick to activate the "HOLD" light. But it won't flash in normal circumstances.
Yup, it was indeed flashing, on and off kind of flashing...
My bro went for PI car indeed becos to save cost.
The car was sent to the workshop called autoblitz. I went to autoblitz b4 and I think their overall set up + service is not bad... hope they wont give us troubles...
As for the hold button, if it really exists in my bro's car, I really dunno!!! haha.. when he got it back, I will try to take a good look whether such a button exists in Demio.
It will be tricky to locate it though. Actually not that tricky. It is placed directly below (or under) the button when u press to select a gear. However, it is not labeled as "HOLD" but it is labeled as 3 dots which you can feel when you touch the button. Hope that helps in your quest to find that magical "HOLD" button. Haha!
Eh, what about the ORANGE thing that lights up along with HOLD???
The ORANGE things that lights up looked like a shape of the engine... but I am not sure sia... anyone knows what that light stands for?
Thanz everyone for replying my queries!!! Really appreciate it!
I'm lifting from the Mazda Manual... It says "If this light comes on while driving, the vehicle may have a problem. It is important to note the driving conditions when the light came on and counsult a Mazda Dealer"
"The engine check light may come on in the following cases
- The engine's electrical system has a problem
- The emmision control system has a problem"
"If it remains on, do not drive at high speeds"
Hope this 'official' document helps

if its the orange engine then its more than jz the HOLD button liao... tat one need the techs to fix it... engine related...
wow.. engine related problem... sounds really serious and problematic liao... Haiz I lost confidence with Mazda cars liao... sadded.
New car only nia, met with such problems already.
I dun think I saw the word CHECK... not sure not sure.
I FOUND SOMETHING IMPORTANT. While scanning though the owner's manual.
It states that "CAUTION! - If the HOLD indicator lights flashes, the transaxle has an electrical problem. Continuing driving your Mazda in this condition could cause damage to your transaxle"
It seems to be a serious problem and good thing ur bro brought it to the workshop.|
Maybe ur PI car is probelmatic. That's why alot of people would rather buy a official dealer car because you will never know where the PI gets it car from and how they medel with it
Huh, PI car dealer will "meddle" with cars de ah??????
What are the things they meddle with???
Remove the original parts and replace with something cheapo???
If its true... DAMN the PI dealers...
Thanz, I learned alot from you all... really relief that at least the car has been sent to repair... hope they fixed it once and for all.
It all depends which PI you buy from. Some will do some underhand stuffs. But sometimes, the shipping company that ships ur car here may damage the car in some ways. Alot of things can happen in PI cars.
But that doesn't mean that authuorised dealers car's are perfect. It's just that (in general) PI cars are more 'unreliable'.

no all r bad but theres still abit risk.... also it could also be the tech/workshop ppl who f-up ur car(cheap labour).... tats y most ppl go for Authorize Dealers...
At the gear there, there are some general words.. P R N D S L.... what is the L gear for?
In Singapore don't need use 1. It means 'Low'. Mostly for use when going up very very steep hills or you are lugging a caravan (which you can't in S'pore) when going up hill. Leave that 'L' alone.
Advisable to use L gear on multi-storey carparks?
