Road safety officers are calling on the government to ban smoking behind the wheel to cut the number of accidents. Simon Ettinghausen, of the Local Authority Road Safety Officers' Association, said smoking was a dangerous distraction.
1) Yes, it's a dangerous distraction.
2) No, it's a personal choice in lifestyle.
3) Others, state why.
1) Ban. Best is ban smoking once and for all. Smoking is detrimental to the health of mankind. We banned harmful drugs like herion etc, why do we leave smoking unbanned?
2) No, as long as they know they will not light up their cigerattes when they are travelling at high speed or when there are a lot of cars
boliaw....
no real statistics that smoking causes accidents is there?
Why ban smoking? I'm a non smoker but I think while related to road incidents, you don't really see accidents happening because the driver happens to be smoking. I'm sure the risk of getting into an accident is higher when the driver one hand eat macdonalds big mac and other hand drinking coke and use his knees to steer the car, for example.
People have been smoking and driving way before you were born. If it's not an issue then, why would it be an issue now?
There are other factors that contribute to accidents. So far never heard of any smoking related accidents here. I have seen a lot of idiotic drivers on the road and none of them were smoking. Its not the smoking that should be worried about but the smoker behind the wheel. You can be driving with a Bluetooth handsfree and talking but if you do not concentrate on your driving, accidents will still happen.
PS. The above study is from UK. You should ask local associations here if this is a problem in Singapore. Watch this, might learn something.
2) no ban..
i seen alot smokers driving while smoking, doesnt seems to be a problem. The problem is handphone without earphones... dangerous really....
or worst still, eating breakfast in the car with 1hand.... can drink coffee somemore. dan look at side to put the drinks, nv see infront, always may kiss the butt of the front car...
smoking and driving, can co-exist as, they are alert. nothing much to worried about. Dangerous is also for drink driving and others.... smoking i dont think it will affect much...
If they ban smoking, then ban eating also.
Personally I feel for smoker ( I am a smoker myself )
When you cant smoke , you will start to feel uneasy and if you are tired you will fall asleep.
When you are really very tired travelling in expressway , A cigarette can really avoid smoker from falling asleep
nothing wrong what smoking.
i only scared when they drive infront of me den they throw their butt to the road den i speed up go over the cig butt den i explode due to leaking fumes or what.
is it possible??
if u smoked until the smoke fills up ur car and u cant see the road den ok, ban.
if not, no nid.
No ban!
Most of the forumers here had written down my reasons, so I'll won't further explain.
agree with sv_190 but seriously they should ban smoking rather than keep jacking up the price to earn the tax and keep making places that cannot smoke
Jacking up the taxes for cigarettes is actually a way to reduce smoking. Not so much into earning revenue.
They can't even handle those accidents related to drink driving or those youngsters racer wannabe killing people recklessly and now they want to talk bout banning smoking. Want to kiang but mai gey kiang lah.
no ban. no see point in banning.
