Anyone noe what the price for toyota Celica? How's is the performance and handling compared to others sports cars

Hi,
There are a few models of Celica available, which one are you talking abt?
The most basic model is the SS1, follow by the SS2 and the top of the chart is Sports M.
SS1 comes in auto or 5 speed manual, a stock of 145 bhp, 1800cc non-turbo engine. Price range (as of last yr, now should drop a little) if abt 95-100k.
SS2 comes in auto or 6 speed manual, a stock of 190 bhp, 1800cc non-turbo engine. Again, price range as of last yr is abt 110k.
Sports M - Not too sure cos few pple buy them in S'pore, though there are a few. Believe its 220bhp, and costs over 120k (as of last yr).
A celica is more than powerful enough for daily use but then, as its only 1800cc and non-turbo, it cannot outrun a Type R or any turbo charge car when stock, except for sports M maybe. However, a SS2 with some mob should do the trick.
However, maintenance of a celica will definitely be cheaper than then a turbo car, and fuel consumtion is pretty okie! In fact, the fuel consumption is even better than some 1600cc saloon car! And of cos, another advantages is the slightly cheaper road tax as compared to other 2000cc car, but its not really that big of a sum.
I personally drove the SS2 a couples of time before, as my brother own one SS2 (bought last yr April/May and cost 111k). Fixed with Veilside bodykit which look terrific i should say. Overall, not a bad car, and so far so good I should say. If not, you won't be seeing so many Celicas ard on the rd.
Of cos, unless you are really that power crazy, then go for a Rex! But then, the petrol consumption and maintenance will kills you. Insurance should be more or less the same. -

If price is ur consider factor,u should consider rx8,compare with SS2 price.not much different...

Actually 15k is not a small amount. Cos if you work out the sum, if 7 yrs loan, monthly you'll pay about S$120-200 more in installment, which is actually quite a bit.

u will learn tat turbo is redundant when u see a NA civic winning an modded STi by 6 car lengths on drag... once sat my fren's modded altezza n raced with a EVO VII at ECP, cant even see the EVO VII headlights fr the mirrors, wats worse is tat the EVO on his turbo n pull away fr us 1st, but got overtook by us within 5secs... not saying turbo is useless, but theres alot of cases where NA cars juz simply win any turbo cars hands down... =)Originally posted by HENG@:nothing beats turbo. hahahahahahah! -
heyo pardon my ignorance... can fill me in on how the Turbo is used? am i right to say that a turbo car is naturally aspirated on pure acceleration, unless u manually switch on the turbo separately? how long does it last?

was in macau in 2001, saw a few races... remb the result of an open race, 1st was BMW M3, 2nd was an DC2(Au Chi Hong), 3rd n 4th both was EG6 wheres 5th is again an M3... subaru sti was not even in the top ten... an evo5 placed 9th and an evo 7 placed 16th... still have the newsletter with me with the results in it... pls dun underestimated civics, they r juz great cars but unfortunately had a 'bad name' coz of some of those reckless n beng drivers in sg n S.E.A take a good look at civics in japan r HK, they r a highly respected car... who can produce an 1.8l car with stock horsepower matching a 2.0l turbo car? try 3l with 900bhp for size then.
the macau race, u have to look at the quality of the drivers too. this is one point you all always forget. and the sheer number of civics taking part(cheap cars they are, so more entries), gurantees that enough makes it to the top. also remember race regulations limit all cars to a certain horsepower, so the heavier M3s would be at an disadvantage. in fact, when u people look at races like the macau GP n the MME, do u ever consider how the race regulations affect the performance of the car and about the compromises that a racing team has to consider and make according to the diff circumstances? -
Oh while we are at it, i was lucky enough to be given a ride in Tailslide's DC5 recently. while i do agree that it is a pretty nice ride, we sort of did a 0-100 and in 1st gear, and 2nd, it took a bit of time to get into the powerband. while, yes, while in the powerband, it is more than enough, the DC5 being FWD, it was that time needed to get into the powerband that loses it 1 second on the 0-100 time to the EVO. the other 1 second came from the inherent faults of FWD, being unable to cope fully with the power in 1st and 2nd gear.(we got quite a bit of wheelspin).
so my point is, while a VTEC engine is a bit of a marvel, being able to put out the power it does, the point is, for cars, its often not just about the power, but also about the torque, the powerband, the ability of the car to get into the powerband quickly and the ability of the chassis to handle the power and transfer it efficiently to grip.
and on those counts, the civic, and its VTEC engine, fail to sufficiently make any impact on me -

The very fact that the primary mode of a VTEC engine is fuel economy detracts from the tractability of its power. Sure, once the power kicks in, it's great, but you'll have to wait for the engine to spool up to that point first. At the end of the day, it's as bad as lag, if not worse, depending on how the turbo is set up.

heng, dun coral reef AJ lah. i can understand his point of view as well as yours.
civics are excellent handlers coz of their light weight and double wishbone setup (similar to F1 cars) but this does not allow them to be as sturdy as a mac struts/ multi link set up needed in rally set ups. i used to own a modded Sir and i must say, the handling on tarmac is damn solid compared to my peers driving rexes and EVOs.
4wd TCed cars benefit from the 4WD technology which gives them traction on all surfaces. cumbersome as their weight, these vehicles make up for it by their sheer ingeniousity of their traction control and ability to make all 4 wheel work in pulling it out of a corner.
to pit a civic against a 4wd TCed car on gravel and snow, the civic sure die until very ugly. to pit a 4wd TCed car and a civic on tarmac, i'll give it to the better driver. -
