After i watched ep 3, i wanted to give up this series
already......

The voice acting for Triela, really sucks...... i have this odd
feeling that the voice acting of Triela, portray her as low
confidence........

this series is really disappointing,

i am beginning to think of, dropping, this series and Dragonaut The
Resonance, if not for Hirano Aya in this dragonaut, i would have
dropped this series, long time ago

In terms of quality, MKV is much better than rmvb, that is for
sure, i choose AVI because due to easier to re encode to rmvb,
mainly for archive purpose, i don't want to run out of space so
soon, I know there are some shows out there, which need to retain
quality but to be honest, i am not a big fan of MKV, as it cause
too much problem for me already, not that it can't be resolve, just
that it can be a pain in the a s s, and every freaking time, i have
to use g spot to check it.

what you said is true, if i have a choice i would want to retain
quality also, but most fansub, encode their file in xvid but i
don't really entirely sure about encoding at all, most of the time,
i just add and then re encode again, to me what is most important
is space...........

But one thing is for sure, a lot of those american encoder for the
TV show, are in HD, which is not a big issue for me, as i don't
usually download much video, i will either look for xvid avi due to
the smaller size, than HD size...... grrrrrr

sorry for the outburst, as too much issue with MKV, and ya what you
said is true, just need to tweak the FFDshow filter..... -_-

Something else that hasn't been mentioned yet: the firearms in
this second series are drawn with noticeably less detail and look
grossly out of proportion in some scenes.

Rico's CZ 75, for example, looks misshapen and crudely rendered in
the gunfight scene in the first episode.

Not that the casual viewer would notice, though. <img title=

i agree with abao, i prefer my animes to be in .mkv format. i'm
not worried about disk space as i have plenty of them. not enough i
can always get a new hard disk. hard disks aren't expensive these
days anyway.

all my gundam 00 episodes are in .mkv. 300+MB for each episode. i
want my animes to be viewed in th best quality possible.

regarding what allen mentioned playing mkv files with VLC, yes it
does has some problems like lag and subtitles not displaying
properly. that's why majority of people play them with media player
classic. no problems at all.

but ultimately it boils down to individual's preferences. no point
arguing what's good what's bad.

Frankly speaking, problems happpen with people using mkv is
because they dont have the required codecs. Which is easily solved
with FFDShow and Haali.

And do you know that H264 is actually optimised for low bitrate
videos, like bitrates of 500kbs?

I personally recode using x264 and neroaac to achieve an average
filesize of 90-175mbs, depending on the type of show. Usually I get
an average quant of 18 which corresponds to CQ2 of MPEG4(DivX &
XviD included)

And when you recode, of course you drop the resolution to SD size.
Who needs the HD when the target is 140mb or less?

With certain tweaks and optimisations, you can achieve better
results with x264 than what I've done so far even.

Personally I dont use rmvb anymore for recoding anymore. Color
information is lost real media only supports 65535 colors. Though
it is up to what you want. <img title="Wink" src=

If anyone wants to retain MKV format, it
is fine, just that, it is not as stable as AVI, and for those who are waiting for Evangelion: 1.0
You Are [Not] Alone (movie), i watched the cam version with chinese
sub, this movie is totally about the anime series, and they remark

With the huge amount of anime series in my HARD DISK, i can even
host a direct download site, so do you think i don't know my stuff,
huh?

i still insist that, MKV is bad a s s format, every once in a
while, i download a mkv file, example [spoonsub] Sketchbook full
colour's, the video frame was lagging, and i thought there is
problem with their encode, then i realise, the problem lies with
the codec, and i had no choice but to update my k lite again!

MKV is known to cause a lot of problem, if you don't know any S
H I T about codec at all, and you can search IT format, and you
will know how many problem it cause, and do you even know, when
[GG] released MKV format for their code geass ep, a lot of people
using vlc player, have problem opening the file, and now you tell
me, which format is better!

MKV or AVI!

Originally posted by abao:

mkv does not eat up your hdd... ... get
your facts right
its the bitrate that adds up to the final filesize of a file.

Becoz most fansub prefers to encode 704x396 @ 175MB for avi (XviD,
mp3) and 1280 x 720 @ 233MB for mkv (x264, aac), it seems that the
size is larger. But it isnt at all.

Per pixel wise, x264 is still more efficient. And some shows can be
compressed to 1280 x 720 @ 175MB if you know how.

Also, you can always recode to a smaller size, like what you are
doing now. So what's the problem?

It does eat up my hard disk! if i go for avi format, i can
convert it easier, and it will save me a lot of space, each series
is about 4.5 gb if i don't convert, and if i convert it to rmvb
format, i can save at least 2 gb, and i can download another series
as well,

the only show i will retain quality, example: REIDEEN, because it
emphasis a lot on the CGI, so i have to retain mkv, for clearer
picture, i have around 200 series in my HARD DISK, and do you
understand the logic at all, and i don't need a 1260 x 720, because
i don't have a wide screen monitor! even avi has 233mb, i know! but
a lot of fansub are sticking to mkv, but if anything happen to the
codec, such as, the codec is corrupted, do you know how much
problem it can cause!

And furthermore, AVI is a more stable format, you don't even need k
lite or cccp at all, and seriously if i retain all the series as
mkv or avi format, even 1 TG hard disk, it will not be enough at
all, and furthermore, depends on the graphics of the anime series,
and the raw, and most anime don't have much CGI at all, even you
compare with AVI and MKV, there is no much difference at all!, I
have seen enough anime series to know this for sure!

So what is your problem?

Anime: Gunslinger Girl Season II replied by supremebull @ Mon, 21 Jan 2008 17:31:48 +0800

The character designs seem to more closely resemble the manga
character designs no, although I think that is a bad thing. I liked
the more mature character designs of the first season more.

The jury is still out on this one. Watched the first episode and am
very disappointed, even though the anime shows a lot of promise
with the Pinocchio arc. I would have liked to see how they would
portray the huge bloody fight at the end of the Pinocchio arc,
although I would have to wait till season 3 comes out...?
