That is the view of Nagoya-born manga artist, Ms Junko Suzuki, 27.
The manga instructor, from the Inoue School of Language and Art on Kramat Lane, said: 'The most vital key to making good manga is originality and creativity.'Unfortunately, this originality is what many of her students at Inoue lack. The manager-in-charge of the school, Ms Geraldine Yeo, explained: 'We need a lot of determination from our students to come up with good stories to be published.'The art style should not be copied and, most importantly, the storyline must be innovative.'Ms Suzuki said: 'In Japan, it's a must to have originality in your art. But here, everyone starts drawing manga by copying from more famous work.'Being innovative is very important in manga.'Ms Suzuki certainly knows what she is talking about. She started drawing at two and has never stopped. An artwork by Ms Suzuki, who'll be teaching traditional techniques of manga at Funan Digital Mall on 13 March. She started with pencil, then moved on to watercolours and now, after clinching numerous awards and commendations, is an expert in manga art.Edited by Catknight 22 Feb `08, 12:34PM
