what an irony.

I would not really agree that DDR (or 'DDR1') is lousier. I
still prefer the higher latency of 2.5 ~3.0 DDR rams have as
compared to the 4 ~5 from the DDR2s. The increase in speed at the
sacrifice of latency is inevitable nonetheless.

using DDR2? DDR2 is cheaper. I wish to buy it instead of DDR1. Can
it work as well? Not compatiable = doesnt work at all or can
try?

The recent drop in prices of DDR2 1GB sticks is due to excess
supply. It had reached the low of $46 per 1GB stick about a month
ago and is on its way back liao to $51~$56. <img title="Laughing"

what an irony.

The drop in prices certainly had nothing to do with technology
advancement *coughs* so we're (DDR2 users) just being lucky, and
not you being unlucky.

In the same manner, as DDR sticks are no longer in production,
diminishing stocks can only mean some spike in the prices as they
become a rarity, up to a point where there is no demand from ppl to
buy DDR cos it no longer justfies the price.

How come DDR2 RAM are cheaper than DDR RAM?

"DDR2 DIMMs are not backwards compatible with DDR DIMMs. The
notch on DDR2 DIMMs is in a different position than DDR DIMMs, and
the pin density is slightly higher than DDR DIMMs. DDR2 is a
240-pin module, DDR is a 184-pin module."

Answer to all questions, No.

In order to upgrade your laptop RAM, you will need to upgrade your
motherboard as well.

Not compatible means it won't work at all. You can try, but I can
guarantee you that you need to buy a new motherboard after
trying.
