    • Hmm... if you put it in learning mode and log in to another account... it will have short term memory...

      Wireless network - added
      VPN - added

Log in to another account - cannot recognize, prompt to re-add, then give out error, interfaces exist.

Ignore the prompts and let it be... everything works fine.

I only like Norman sand box. Any others, the product goes to the trash bin.

In XP, Windows Firewall only blocks incoming connections, not outgoing. In other words, you won't know what things are being sent out when you are connected to the Net. A properly configured firewall will prompt you about programs connecting to the Net.

In Vista, the firewall works both way, but by default, outgoing connections are not monitored. In effect, it's about the same as XP Firewall... you need to configure Windows Firewall in order for it to block certain programs connecting to the outside world or let it notify you that something is trying to connect.

Whether to download 32-bit or 64-bit will depend on your OS version. Most of us are using 32-bit OS.

If unsure, download the 64-bit and run it. If you get an error, means your OS is 32-bit. 32-bit programs can't run a 64-bit program, but a 64-bit program can run a 32-bit program (generally, some programs can be very idiotic).

    • Is this any good? I never used a firewall after I stopped using dialup internet.

It's so good, that it can effectively lock you out of the Internet if configured wrongly.

      Why?

      I did that to myself.

As a firewall, it does more.

      1. Monitors your hard disk. For every program you install, every file/folder you delete, you not only receive a prompt from Windows whether you want to delete, but from Comodo as well. Too sensitive in my opinion... but nowadays viruses create things everywhere... well...

      2. Monitors your registry. For all installation and uninstallation... your probably receive at least 20 prompts.

      3. When on learning mode... it has very short memory. My first post to this thread says it...

When on default mode... it's memory is just as short.

      4. Ability to block out networks... like the infamous Ukraine networks... (hosting all those porn, fake antivirus/antispyware crap). However... I can't seem to get it to work...

In that aspect, Sygate works better. When I added the whole Urkraine set of IP address for blocking, I was denied access.

Even with so much monitoring... it's as light as Sygate.

As for Sygate... it does what it's supposed to - monitor connections. Depending on your settings, you will or perhaps never receive prompts unless it's an unknown to Sygate.

I guess that means not user friendly for you or too complicated to use.

Last time my whole comp got locked by sygate on default settings. What crap.

Only the Block All Mode does that.

      1. This feature is by the new Defense+ module integrated into the firewall, and can be disabled.
      2. Never noticed that. Maybe because I chose the "basic firewall" option during the installation of Comodo.
      3. Don't think so. The learning mode is what I needed being a past user of its previous version, and it is working as it should be. CPF3 is simply like a breath of fresh air compared to the prompt-filled CPF2.
      4. Works well - I once used it to block Antbuster from sending the score to its website. Laughing

Try looking in The Quarantined File section. And mind giving more details how it was disabled like whether it is through a prompt or a manually edited option?

If you need to get the blocked program running urgently, you can try re-installing the firewall. Remember to do a backup of the current configuration beforehand under the Miscellaneous section in case you would like to revert to the current settings in the future.

Mine only got 1 - 2 prompts max for each program, and it only occur once (as it is "learning"). How about updating to the latest stable version?

For #4, maybe you forgot to click on the second Apply button (the first one for adding the entry), which I once did. I've tried blocking Microsoft's IP range (assuming /16), pinging microsoft.com before and after, and it even signed me off Live Messenger.

The file is not inside quarantine section. I disabled it through prompt option. Didn't really read what the firewall was asking and disabled it. Just power up my com and it asked me the question again. Heng i didn't tick the remember me option previously. Guess next time if give the wrong choice must restart com?

Not really. You can also try looking for the block entry under Defense+ > Advanced > Computer Security Policy and edit it as necessary.

Am using the latest stable version. I will be forced to switch to Sygate if the prompts don't lessen. It's a bit too heavy on 256MB machine also.

      #4 - Click liao. Somehow, didn't work.
