    • Ball mouse or the one with laser light?

Ball mouse - clean the mouse pad and your mouse, especially the ball and the 4 small round pads sticking on the mouse

Light mouse - Please use a piece of paper or grab an exercise book and use that as your mouse pad. Or anything that is rough but flat. Cardboard will do fine as well.

    • If it’s laptop, then… I don’t know. Some touch pads are more sensitive than others. Get a mouse and disable the touch pad or live with the touch pad high sensitivity.

    • If its cursor pad, you need to whack whack /tap tap other places with some force.

Most likely you pressed too hard on once side, or faulty pressure sensor.

    • XP:

Start > Control Panel and double click on Mouse

Look around the tabs, there's an option to disable the Touch Pad and use a USB mouse.

      Vista Classic Start Menu:

Start > Settings > Control Panel and double click on Mouse

      As per XP instructions

      Vista new Start Menu:

      Start > Control Panel ??? I think.

It's one of the quirks of optical mouse. Laughing

There's a reason why ball mouse is better, but its specs may not be as attractive as optical mouse.

    • If your touchpad does that, most likely have to replace I think.

The touchpad works by sensing capacitance.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touchpad

If it runs to the top left, its sensors are probably detecting something there. Perhaps even under the touchpad. Though what could cause it, im not sure. The touchpad will recognize certain objects besides your fingers... eg, oranges, orange peels... heh.

geez, my key pad is kept extremely clean and I doubt there's any thing under my keyboard's keys.

i guess I'll have to find time to get it replaced soon.
