Eh, nope. MS SQL Server is not my choice. Its what the company is using, and works with ASP.Net applications. I'm just the SA sounding off some alarms due to high mem usage. =/

Maybe the 1GB is reserved by the MSSQL or you have set the minimum memory to 1GB.

As for the 2GB issue, are you using a lot of temporary tables?
