    • I have problem accessing my 2 thumbdrive recently.

The first suddenly become like a "cd-rom without a disk". no matter i try, i couldnt access the drive, it will only prompt "Please insert a disk into drive #".

The second will prompt that it is not formatted, but when i try to format it, it will always return a message "unable to format drive" at the end of the formatting.

I always handled the them with care, stop the drive before removing it from a pc, and i've never drop them on the floor. Anyone have any idea what is wrong with my thumbdrive?

    • Btw i forgot to mention that they become this state after i place a .exe file into the first thumbdrive and a mp3 into the second thumbdrive. Those files were not from the same source (computer) and they are not "broken" at the same time.

    • No idea, could be infected. Some of these buggers prevent a format from happening.

Try running this tool first - http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/Flash_Disinfector.exe

      After that, show hidden files.

      • Open My Computer.
      • Go to Tools > Folder Options.
      • Select the View tab.
      • Scroll down to Hidden files and folders.
      • Select Show hidden files and folders.
      • Uncheck (untick) Hide extensions of known file types box.
      • Uncheck (untick) Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) box.
      • Click Yes when prompted.
      • Click OK.

Open the thumbdrive. Delete all .COM files and any unknown .EXE file(s).

If unsure, post back the file name.
