    • Acer's supplied operating system is --  OEM windows xp home.

When the cd key is oem, you will have to use an oem disc.

Not just any other xp home.

      But OEM xp home.

      Ts's friend did this

My friend has an acer com, he reformatted using windows xp sp 2 pro, but his OS is xp home editon. And the cd key he inputted from the side of his com is invalid. i find this funny.

Meaning, most prob he used a cd to reformat.

Not the Acer -supplied reformat suite or the f11 method of reformatting the computer.

If it is Acer's reformatting method, then there will be no need to key in a cd key @ all.

    • OEM = original equiptment manufactuer.

Operating systems come in 2 types.

      OEM and Consumer.

OEM= no support from microsoft, in context to this issue

Consumer = support from microsoft, they will send you disc if your disc crack ect.

Oem = no support from microsoft, you lose disc, they say "too bad"

OEM= cheaper. Cause no fancy packages, just cd and key.

Consumer = ex. Cause with fancy box + support.

OEM discs are 99% the same as the consumer ones except for one string of code that differentciates it from consumer ones.

Why? Due to the reasons above.

Computer brands like Acer for Ts's case, uses oem os.

Support would be from that manufactuer.

Microsoft sells these giants oem discs and  "os cd coder" and they just use this to give tons and tons of pcs an activation code.

Labels are then printed and pasted at the sides of computers and bottom of laptops.

These are labelled as OEM operating systems.

So only oem discs can be used with these codes.  Reasons above.

And if you go simlim/ funan, you might always wonder, why 2 os of the same kind have different prices.

      That's your reason.

      Oem and consumer type

    • XP Pro and XP Home license keys are different. Else why MS give license keys?

      It's not for show.

Me:'u using sp pro or home edition?'

      Guy: ' home edition.'

(At this time, i scolded all the vulgarities i knew)

Me:'Ok, doess ur recovery disc work?'

Guy:'No, there is a big scratch'

Me:' then got acer xp disc?'

      Guy:' Lost it"

      Me:(gives him a cd-key+some programs which i don't want to disclose)

      Me:'how?'

      Guy:' Eh, can work liao'

      (waits for about 30mins)

      Me: any prob?

Guy: yes, i got no internet.

      Me:link the cable already?

Guy: yes, still cannot scan area for wireless.

      Me;k, i go ask friend(mypillowtalks)

    • yes, 2 wire from singnet. he say he cannot connect to internet at all.

The modem has a red led lit up, and on the 2wire.com, it didn't say a thing about it.

Btw he has no internet, so downloading anything is not workable.
