I've recently recontracted with Singnet and upgraded my 3mbps plan to a 8mbps one, but my download speed off a private FTP site and another website remains the same at 70KB/Sec.
I got a friend whom is also using Singnet 8mbps plan to run downloads off the same sites and his download speed was somewhere between 120KB/S to 150KB/S. I was puzzled and I ran some speed test and even called Singnet helpdesk. Both speed test and Singnet helpdesk confirmed that my internet had been upgraded already.
So what's the issue?
If it helps, I'm using a wireless connection and a ADSL2 modem provided by Singnet itself. Windows firewall is disabled.

You want to try to connect directly to your modem instead of using wireless and see how?

You will only get good speeds if the server is in SG. Since it's a private FTP server, don't expect much out of it.
Also bear in mind that different servers have different bandwidth. You may have lots of bandwidth, the same can't be said for the server. That's why a lot of servers hate download managers because they suck up a lot of bandwidth.

I mentioned that my friend whom is using the same plan as me, is getting 2x my download speed off the SAME ftp site :(
