Debate - Ban on advertising of fast foods?

  First and foremost guys, a very Happy Chinese New Year.
  
  I'll be participating in a debating competition next week and have to collect information and research on the above relevant topic. Could you rack your brains and help me think of why we SHOULDN'T scrap off fastfood advertisements?

  There is still no link (yet proven) that people will consume less fast food when the ban on fast food ads is in effect.

  fast food are getting healthy
  
  -they serve with fruits
  
  -added serving of vegetables
  
  Fastfood cater to busy people
  
  -if no fastfood, people will late becos of lunch, cause economy prob

  If we ban fast food ad, why the hell aren't we banned ciggy ad yet? And what about coke?
  
  And most importantly, will banning lead to the desired effect? Will it really lead to a drop in consumption?

  Because it will be totally disastrous and unthinkable.. fast food joints are already an integral part of our lifestyle and economy. Can you imagine what will happen, if sg has no Mac, KFC or pizza hut? We can't depend on kopitiams, foodcourts and restaurants (which don't have 24/7 phone orders) all the time...
  
  How much unemployment would it cause??

  Because at the end of the day it's still up to individuals to whether to take fast food or not
  
  So what if the ad has been banned, will it stop the people from taking fast food? (Maybe, to a small extent only, since people will not get reminded on the ads which made them patronise the fast food joints. BUT, fastfood has sort of become part of our lifestyle, since young? We dont need to get reminded to think of fast food)
  
  The opponent might debate: The ads will encourage people to have fast food bla bla.. and now with those rap intro in fast food ads like Macdonald that might attract teengers.... Think bout how to counter this.... also the opponents might show a statistics of obese children so, think bout it
  
  Just take a walk into any shoppin centres you can find at least ONE fast food joints. So even with the ban of ADS, do you think it can stop people from taking fast food??
  
  Since you're debating on the against side (against banning of fast food ads), i guess it will be easier.

  In sg, all tobacco advertisements have been banned since 1971.

  children love fastfood, and fastfood always donate to charity..... it save our time on que-ing and good for busy people. Fastfood like subway are healthy.... don compare mac or kfc. long long 1time eat also okay 1..

  i got watchd this movie before its about this lawyer who works for big cigar firm in US. Basically the story runs about how he tackle all the public protest on cigar & how to handle media and government pressure, it's amazing to see how he turns the fact upside down & convince the opponents..
  i forgot the title, someone might know here perhaps. I recommend u watch it - it will suit the debate & ur position as an opposition..

  Fast Food is like a need man....you can't just ban their ads.....
  
  Its not like they're more harmful than cigs.....
  
  I'm glad we dun have cigs ads here in spore.....
  
  To ban fast food ads is like banning ck underwear ads

  its the ads lah......lol.....if they ban fastfood in spore.....everyone would grow hungry......there will be lack of food for the whole population......

  You might need to think of how to counter the proposition if this comes out:
  
  Some fastfood chains give out flyers instead of coupons... seriously, not many people will look at these flyers before throwing them away, so in fact, they are generating more trash.

  Just don't eat french fries, the number 1 killer.
  
  And french fries are not only prevalent in fast foods, but also in hawker foods.
  
  Also, hawker foods are not much healthier than fast foods too. For one, I don't see how fast foods are any more unhealthier than carrot cake or etc... And even the supposedly "healthy" yong tau foo is not as healthy as you think... It consists of processed food and carbs...

  What types of fast food?
  
  What kind of advertising? TV, Outdoor Ads, Online, etc.
  
  Possible to ban?

  Why ban food? Even abit unhealthy.... But why dont you scold geylang or newton there food center there? So unhealthy then mac also.. so much oil, and high cholesterol....
  
  It dont make any logical sense..

  Fastfood like MacDonalds is making their menu healthy mah. Like on certain days they have the veggie salad for only a dollar or 2 i think. And they're coming up with cupcorns and stuff like that. And the content of each food item is printed on the paper on the tray so you know what you are consuming and it'll help people make better choices. Happy Meals are also carefully chosen for the better food combinations mah.
