Hullo

Well I was really lousy at maths when I was in Sec Sch....

but you know what - I think one of the easiest thing to do to
improve is to PRACTICE

Drill it into yourself! If you have enough practice, you don't
need to purposely memorise the formulas, the formulas will just
come to you because you apply them in the correct situations.

As for comprehension - have you been taught how to do mapping of
a paragraph? This is one technique taught to pluck out the
important points in a passage. The most difficult thing about
comprehension is the inferential questions where you have to play
'detective' and look for clues to help you. Direct content question
you should be able to answer (just don't COPY from the passage
wholesale!)

Hi night-time,

Ask yourself what really is holding you back when it
comes to dealing with Mathematics. Is it the way you learn? Is it
your fear of facing the symbols that don't make sense? Is it that
you have failed far too many times and you cannot seem to see any
success at all?

Mathematics requires one to understand and that takes
time and patience. It's alright if you do not understand a concept
for the first time. Continue to go through it again and again.
Get your hands dirty, by working through the steps on your own,
especially if there are worked examples from the textbook or your
teacher's solutions. Are you able to reproduce the thinking and
therefore the working?

It will not be easy, but it will be rewarding, once you
are illuminated. Do not let the present difficulties affect your
self-confidence in the subject. Press on!

Cheers,

i think math is all about de confidence bah.

people like to hear that they are good at something. the better
you are at something, the more you'll want to keep up the standard,
the more you'll work at it, and it becomes a very positive
cycle.

so start practicing from the easy questions to build up
confidence. once you are confident that you can do the questions
then continue from there. don't worry, i was from where you were
too... =)

To get good grade in maths, i think u need to love doing maths
1st. Set a target, aim for 60% for ur next test paper. den u will
have the confidence to do maths. Sraightaway do ur maths homework
after u reach home. den after u got 60%, aim for 70%. slowly aiming
higher for ur subsequent test papers. do ur homework and understand
how it works. practice makes perfect. overcome ur hatred n love
maths. tats the 1st step.

Maths the killer replied by night-time @ Thu, 20 Mar 2008 22:45:19 +0800

Hi all ,

I am Sec 2 Express this year and I'm new to this forum
(:

         I am starting
to hate maths ..maths is a burden to me and I can't really
comprehend it , it simply sucks .. I can't really solve algebra
. I just can't memorise the formula ! Seriously , maths seems
to kill me ..

My weakest subjects are :

Maths

English ..

Can anyone suggest any 'maths improvement' technique ?

Secondly , the #$@$@ of
my EL teacher , he is dame baised ! He had had a group of girls and
named them 'Charles Angels' , he always asked them , without fail ,
if they had got any question on the lesson and somemore an
after-class remedial ..

But , indirectly , his teaching is good. No teacher had really
taught me that English Essay is an ART .. You got to write
something that seems to be something but in the end is not
something.

E.g: Write about the BUS .. and your essay got to write about
the bus and well , seems to write alot but in the end it's only
about that particulary bus ..

He said that comprehension needs skill .. I know that it needs
'skills' but what skill is needed then ?

I will go crazy soon ..

With friends competing against each other for results , it add
in pressure for me .. it's a must to be in pure science , next year
... and now , it seems that I am worrying about O levels ..
arrghhzzz
