    • United give Fergie the go-ahead to splash £23m on Tottenham's star striker Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov has reappeared at the top of Manchester United's transfer list after the Red Devils gave Sir Alex Ferguson the nod to pursue the  £30million-rated striker.

Ferguson tried to sign Berbatov last summer but Tottenham refused to sell their man. The White Hart Lane club are still reluctant to let him go, according to The Daily Mirror, and have placed the whooping £30m price tag on his head to deter suitors. But the United boss is ready to make a fresh £23m bid in an effort to team him up with Wayne Rooney.

SIr Alex, who returns to work before the United squad arrive back for pre-season training, claims he is unlikely to buy more than one player this summer. He said: 'There could be some dialogue, but I wouldn't think any more than one player. I'm looking at one or two things. People think it's easy to buy players nowadays but it's not - money plays a big part.

'Clubs with ambition don't want to sell their best players so it's not as easy as you think. We tend to look for younger ones.'

    • Hope they get him... Berbatov scored 15 league goals last season without a good midfield assist... and he don't take the penalties for Spurs also... He could probably get about 20 goals if the goes to United...

      Berbatov is no one season wonder... He has continuously scored 20 over goals a season for the last 4 seasons... 2005 - 29, 2006 - 26, 2007 - 23, 2008 - 26.

This is definitely no one season wonder...

    • United to battle Spanish pair for Spurs star
Manchester United could be about to walk into another fight with Real Madrid and Barcelona over Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov. For Spain's big two have emerged as Sir Alex Ferguson's biggest rivals in the race for the forward.

Tottenham's Bulgarian strike ace is top of the United boss's summer wish list - but the Londoners are reluctant to sell to a Premier League opponent. That stance has left the way open for Real - already at loggerheads with the Reds over their pursuit of Cristiano Ronaldo - and Barcelona, with Spurs willing to let their prize asset go abroad for less than the estimated £30m he could cost United.

Berbatov, 27, has spoken openly of his admiration for the double winners' attacking approach, saying: "Giggs, Scholes and Rooney are all fantastic players and Ronaldo plays football from another planet."

Fergie has already indicated he will probably make just one signing this summer with Berbatov his clear favourite. Should his way be blocked, he could then switch his attention to Blackburn's Roque Santa Cruz, who is also a target of City and new boss Mark Hughes, who has recently moved to the Blues from Rovers.

    • 23m too much for a 'normal' player. and not sure if he can fit in the top class line up.
