Neither team really impressed at Woodlands Stadium at the weekend when S.League newcomers Dalian Shide met Woodlands Wellington in the first friendly of a rushed pre-season for the Chinese Super League club’s new representatives in Singapore.
For the record the Woodlands won 1-0, thanks to an 82nd minute winner from Rams’ captain Akihiro Nakamura, but chances had fallen to both sides, especially in a second half that was played at a higher intensity than the first.
By all accounts the Dalian outfit that we saw in this match is not the full team that will face off in the S.League, once we get down to business after the 18th of this month.
It was a relatively young side, captained by central midfielder Lu Peng, who will take the armband even after a number of more senior players arrive from China later this month.
