BECK TO HIS BEST ... David Beckham clips a last-minute goal from his own half against Kansas

DAVID BECKHAM left American players and fans in awe after scoring a 70-yard wonder goal. The LA Galaxy star let fly with Kansas City keeper Kevin Hartman caught upfield looking for a last-minute equaliser.
Beckham took a couple of touches before belting the ball into an empty net to seal a 3-1 win. LA striker Landon Donovan said: “I can’t imagine anyone else scoring that kind of goal.”
In August of 1996, a young Manchester United midfielder began to make a name for himself on the legendary club. David Beckham struck one of the most impressive goals in years when he scored from beyond the halfway line, with a long and accurate strike that caught Wimbledon goalkeeper Neil Sullivan off his line. It was a bit of a watershed moment, one which announced that a new and fearless talent had arrived to do things most players wouldn't even try.
Against the Kansas City Wizards nearly a dozen years later, Beckham struck a shot from even further out than his famous Wimbledon tally. As a helpless Kevin Hartman raced back to cover his goal after having moved upfield for a corner kick opportunity, Beckham coolly lined up a shot and his incomparable right foot delivered the ball into the empty net. This time, the message beyond the score itself might have been to all the naysayers who doubted the midfielder's ability to still produce amazing shots. In both 1996 and 2008, Beckham scored his team's third goal, but versus Kansas City, the Galaxy rallied for the win after going down a goal inthe first half. In fact, the victory moved the team to a winning record for the first time in two years. The Galaxy had spent the entire 2006 and 2007 seasons at .500 or below.
Perhaps that was why Beckham focused on the squad's accomplishments as a whole, especially in terms of finally showing a little consistency. The Galaxy came from behind to win for the first time this season.Edited by zocoss 26 May `08, 10:49AM

Any goal from outside the penalty box should be worth 2 goals.
Any goal struck behind the halfway line should be worth 5 goals.
That should make things mighty interesting.

HAHAHAHAIf that's the case,Riise gonna mess everything up for Liverpool again.

yar the wimbledon one is definitely better, cause it was high and looping and on a turn..
this one so much time to aim at, and the ball slowly bounce in, i'm surprised none of the defenders near him even put in any effort to try and block his shot.. its as if they were inviting him to shoot like that..

I agree with quite a few people here, the goal seemed less impressive after actually seeing it. Credit to him fully for getting the goal, but it was an empty net and it actually bounced along the ground before going into the net.
The Wimbledon goal went direct into the net and it beat Sullivan who was a decent keeper at that time.
