An Introduction to Call of the Minaret:

1. What is the purpose of this forum?

Call of the Minaret is a forum dedicated to the discussion and
sharing of anything and everything to do with Islam. All are
welcome here, be it Muslims or non-Muslims who want to know more
about Islam.

I know that there already is another forum (The Islam Forum) which
aims to serve this purpose. At the same time, though, I realise
that the moderators of TIF aren’t around very much to help promote
the forum. No offence intended to them, for I’m sure that they have
plenty of work on their hands. Many apologies if what I said seemed
offensive to anyone; no ill-will or sarcasm is intended.

As such, I decided to wipe the slate clean and start with a whole
new Islamic forum. I have appointed Gauze and Felirox as my fellow
co-moderators. They are online at sgforums quite regularly and I
believe I can trust them to help run the place well. A forum can
only work if everyone plays a part.

The fourth moderator post is still open; I will be calling for
volunteers to fill in this post soon.

2. What is the meaning of the name of this
forum?

‘Call of the Minaret’ refers to the act that the muezzin performs
to call Muslims to prayer. He would climb to the top of a minaret
(an open tower) and call out the azan, which is the first call to
prayer.

So ‘Call of the Minaret’ symbolises the aim of this forum to call
Muslim visitors to this forum to help promote and diffuse the
knowledge and understanding of Islam. At the same time, as
mentioned earlier, non-Muslims are very much welcome here as well
to participate in the discussions and to raise any enquiries they
may have on Islam.
