Fellow Muslims, I just wanted to ask:
What happens when one eats meat which cannot be verified to be halal? For example, eating beef/chicken in a non-halal food joint?
What happens when a person consumes alcohol or non-halal meat? I ehard something about not being able to do normal muslim stuff like pray and all for 40 days or something.
It's not that I've done anything of the sort; it's just that I saw it happen to a few of my so-called muslim friends as I was growing up.
Anyone can enlighten me on this 'what happens when non-halal/forbidden stuff are in your body' issue?
I would very much appreciate your information. Thank You, all.

The hadith on this matter is this:
Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar RA ; Abdullah ibn Amr RA:
Allah's Messenger said, "If anyone drinks wine Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents Allah will forgive him. If he repeats the offence Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents Allah will forgive him. If he again repeats the offence Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, but if he repents Allah will forgive him. If he repeats it a fourth time Allah will not accept prayer from him for forty days, and if he repents Allah will not forgive him, but will give him to drink of the river of the fluid flowing from the inhabitants of Hell." (Thirmidzi)
Note that this hadith deals particularly with the wilful consumption of alcohol. I'm not sure about how non-halal meat gets into the picture.
