what to prepare before spec course?
hmm.
simple.
be prepared to lead. - most of the cadets in a platoon will get to lead at least once in the whole of the 4 days and 3 nights of spec course. Thus u should prepare now.
get your drills and commands right - essential if you do not want to be deemed as a blur person giving wrong instructions and hated by your platoon mates
be prepared for something different this year - last year 2007 was the last year of the spec course at sispec. Thus this year i heard from clts that it would be held at NCC HQ. Thus, it would be quite different
M16 - you will strip the m16 (1min) and assemble the m16 (1min). Most schools dont have a vault for these rilfes, thus you will have to see if your school is allocated a slot for practice. Do not need to worry if you do not have any practice sessions, during spec course you will practices once first before going for the actual relay.
IFC - know all the crawls and it's purpose. Easiest to score at this section.
Yet, you ust know that this is a large section. (movt by day, movt by night, field signals, crawls, target indication ... ...)
Mutual - you will need to prepare a lesson and either present it to your schools's clt during trainings or in spec course itself, subjected to change. This carries marks. so do well in this and u are on your way to get a 2nd sgt rank.
Listen - Your specialists incharge of you would have/ will be giving mutuals to you guys with regards to spec course ect. Listen to them well and read up on the notes. Bring a note book to write down notes that instructions say.
Overall, have a good haircut, groom yourself well, train up yourself, rest well before that night and good luck.

If you Teacher officer/Commanding officer wants you to be a 2nd sgt, he is able to.
For my school, that would be the case. A few of the 2nd sgts were picked to be 2nd sgts by the teacher officers and not because of points.
This is what the clt incharge of our company told us.
They said " for those who tried very hard but didn get your 2nd sgt, i m sorry. For those who didn try but get your 2nd sgt, you are just lucky.
the upper people are controlling"
