I disagree with you. I think there are a lot of religious people who still live their lives to the fullest; if you think they are just wasting their lives away, then you don't really understand religions. If your only examples of religious people are the extremists who blew themselves up in the name of religion, then you really don't know what you are talking about.
Anyway, I believe "living life to the fullest" is very subjective; what you think as a "full life" may be different from another individual. So what is your definition of "living life to the fullest"? Drugs, sex, rock and roll?? Just because a religious person abstained from drugs, promiscuous sex, alcohol, gambling, and all the vices, does that make his or her life less full?
All religions teach their followers that life is precious and to live a good life; I think it is wrong of you to generalize that only atheists can live a full life.
Mahatma Ghandi and Mother Theresa were both very religious people...so are you saying that they did not live their lives to the fullest and what he did for his nation and what she did for the poor are meaningless??

Well not true.
Please define Religious zealots. Which particular Religion do you refer to?
FYI, Christianity talks about living live to the fullest, it talks about being propserous, rich and being healthy. It talks about treasuring every little relationship on earth, be it kinship, or Love with your spouse. It also talks about honoring your parents.
It is also not appropriate to post this thread here in Chit-chat thread because you are denying "these religious zealots" a chance to correct your mis-conception.
Post it in all the religious threads in SGforum to better make your point.

Meaningful? We must see according to whose point of view is it. Atheist surely lead a more meaningful life in terms of because they believe there is no God, so they do not believe in judgement, so they are free to commit all the sexual immoralities and pleasure as they which.. to them this is meaningful

yes, we should live our life to the fullest, and this applies to everyone religious or non-religious.
i don't think religious people are that zealous to the point of being busy preparing for the afterlife. instead, many of them wanted to make a difference here on earth to get as many people saved so that they could be rewarded in heaven by God.
bet u didn't think of this did ya? i was a christian though, and seeing these things happening before me in the past just disgusts me.

Isn't doing something because you think you, or others will be rewarded in heaven the very definition of not living life to the fullest? There's an opportunity cost here.
Not living life to the fullest is the woman who believes she should submit to men, especially her husband because she believes God commanded it. It's the woman who suffers beatings because she believes that God gave such authority to her husband over her.
Not living life to the fullest is the gay man who spends his entire life fighting who he is because he believes that God proclaimed homosexuality a sin.
Not living life to the fullest is the person who seeks God with all his heart but does not hear an answer. Yet he keeps searching.
Not living life to the fullest is a person who believes that God loves suffering. Just as God in the form of Jesus suffered to forgive us our sins, we should suffer as well so we should know god.
You could argue that perhaps all this could be consider fulfilling. Perhaps.

The lifestyles of agnostic and atheists are very different because of this fundamental difference.
Atheist tend to grab their life moments more kiasu because their belief systems already is tuned towards that there is no god and heaven liao.
Whereas for agnostic, they are less conscious and less kiasu about examining their life deeper because their belief system is in a state of "I dunno whether god exist really"
