This only applies to the fighting done in streets.
Common tactics
1)Hit hard.
2)Hit where it hurts the most.
3)fast and hard.
4)exploit weaknesses and act on them.
Scenarios.
1)Cornered in a corner.
2)Wide in the open.
3)Sudden attack from behind.
Actual Fighting
This section covers a lot.
1)Martial arts.
TKD,and other martial arts. it is good to learn martial arts to protect yourself. The idea here is to learn moves and techniques to take your opponent before the opponent takes you down. Always be flexable in your attack by not restricting yourself to moves you have learnt.
2)Fitness.
it is good to have some exercise program so that you have the stamina...with the strength to take down the opponent.
Now i will cover the scenarios.
scenario 1, Cornered into a corner.
This may happen without you realising it. It may be your friend or a group of people.
If 1 VS 1
if you have the courage to take him/her down, then go for it. Hit hard,if you want, go all out. but beware of counter-attacking if the opponent learned martial arts.
If 1 VS many
In this case, it would be wise to watch the suitation and act accordingly. if you cant handle them, RUN!
run to somewhere public, or somewhere you are sure they can lose you.
(i am not sure about this, but there is a chance that if you are attacked in public, there will be some others joining in to help/harm you.)
Wide in the open
This may be a case of scenario 3...which you may have to get up quickly and fight back. (i have never been in this kind of suitation yet, so i cant share my experience.)
Kill or not to kill?
This is a widely debated topic. especially in singapore.
If the Threat level is so high that it endangers you and others, you may go in for the kill. Fitness and tactics matter a lot this time.
There are no rules if you are fighting for your life. Keep that in mind and go all out according to your ability.

Aha... I will advise anyone who doesn't know how to fight to run. Never fight back.
Even you know how to fight also run, run, run.
I'm the only exception
the
fella try to snatch my briefcase from motorbike... Me boiling mad,
jump onto his motorbike and tackle him, then kick him off
Like Jackie Chan movie *grin*.. The bike was serving crazily and
moving (I have pretty special personality-Very hard to get me pised
off, but once you piss me off, good luck)
But otherwise I will zhao one. Especially if you are in Malaysia.. they carry all kind of parang over there one
If you are cornered...
Learn not to show fear. That time someone in J.B. try to rob an old
woman, he put on the "garang" face... I went in to intervene, I
didn't show any fear.. that really intimidate him I think.. cause
after that he scared off.. but the cuckoo still don't want to
retreat (lose face mah)
Too bad for him I got mad and he lost his arm to me
I'm a bit like Bruce Lee sometimes in the move..
suddenly show explosive speed and power, and let off some wild cry
while wacking that person... enough to scare almost anyone away

But still... RUN

Just run... fighting in Singapore is illegal, whether or not it's for self defense or other legitimate reasons.
And for those who learn Chinese martial arts, you would have learnt some deadly points. It's for knowledge, not for abuse. You still have to follow Chinese martial arts ethics, not to make use of your knowledge to attack others.
