'Roo's dirty' claim Estonia
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WAYNE ROONEY has been accused of dirty tricks by the Estonian who helped him end his goal drought.
Striker Rooney grabbed his first competitive strike for England in over three years thanks to a deflection off defender Raio Piiroja.
But Piiroja claims he was elbowed by the Manchester United hitman in the first half of this Euro 2008 qualifier at Wembley on Saturday. He insisted: Rooney is a dirty player. He is very strong and physical and does things which Estonian players do not do.
I finished the game very angry with Rooney. He is more dangerous with some of his play than the defenders.
English players use elbows when they jump and that is not good for football. I think Rooney should have had a yellow card but he is a big star and referees do not seem to punish famous players, physical opponent.
I cant make excuses because England were better than us and the game was over after 20 minutes. But I think England will have a much harder game in Russia.
Estonia keeper Mart Poom reckons England will qualify from Group E.
The Watford man said: In the second half, England were thinking about the Russia game.
When they were 3-0 up after half an hour I thought Oh my God, this is going to be really embarrassing they could score a hundred. But England calmed down a bit in the second half and we regrouped.
Englands stand-in skipper Steven Gerrard warned: Wednesday is a massive game.
Weve got to be on our toes. The atmosphere will be different in front of their supporters and well be playing on a surface were not used to.

I'll agree it's not easy to find pictures of the match, so TS must have gone to great lengths and time to find THAT specific shot.

About the penalty, this is what I feel. It was definitely a foul, but was it a inside the box? I'm quite sure it wasn't. But then, we have the benefits of replays. Everything happened so fast.
Ultimately, it was a poor performance by England. If they had played better and taken their chances, this penalty won't even be an issue.
In fact, the penalty taken wasn't really a well-taken penalty, a better keeper might have saved it. Perhaps someone like Petr Cech, Van Der Sar just not Robinson or even David James. Still, credit to Russia for taking their chances. At least it was on target.Edited by SumOne 22 Oct `07, 3:01AM

get a good english coach, and limit the foreigners.
else, it is just a vicious cycle.. English League good, but english footballers bad.
Good English coach?
That's a paradox in itself.
There are too few top English coaches in the EPL, and even then, Alan Curbishley, Sam Allardyce were better managers than McClaren, but the FA appointed that joker anyway. Hell, Bobby Robson would have done a better job than McClaren too.
English to be honest dug their own grave, and I for one sure won't miss a Euro 08 without England.
What they need to change is the way they play football, which means from the grassroots up..which means it would take more than a decade before results can be seen. Provided they want to change of course.
In the meantime, I would enjoy seeing the decline of the English national team.Edited by nanren4ever 28 Oct `07, 12:08AM
