  There's this steamboat place at Balestier, close to Mei Zhen Xiang (BBQ pork place). I think the restaurant's name is 'Tian Wai Tian', quite an old place, but the steamboat is very nice! Always got long queue.

  Beach Road - Golden mile complex at B1.

  smoky smelly.....food always very salty (the marination)....sometimes not fresh......

  Think the in-thing is Ma1 La4 Huo3 Bo1 now. Haven't tried it yet but will consider those opposite bugis junction. There's 2-3 streets parallel to purvis st that offer a variety of such food. Many are Chinese national run.
  
  Steamboat (or 'streamboat') wise, i'd stick to golden mile basement and purvis st for quality.

  there is one located opposite flextronics, near the bedok fire station.

  actually it's ma2 la4 huo3 guo1.
  and another name for steamboat is hotpot.
  
  but anyways what are the suggestions for a buffet style steamboat for prob $10-15? the cheaper the better..ha. but other than marina south cos it's too out of the way.
  
  parkway basement food court has pretty good stuff and it can go under $10 but usually i go with 2-3 pple and we get extra food so it's usually ard $15. my frens love the chili sauce dip. my grouse is it's not buffet.
