    • BUTTER VERSES MARGARINE

DID YOU KNOW... The difference between margarine and butter?

Both have the same amount of calories Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at 8 grams compared to 5 grams. Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter according to a recent Harvard Medical Study

Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods Butter has many nutrional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added! Butter tastes much better then margarine and it can enhance the flavours of other foods. Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less then 100 years Now for Margarine... very high in Trans Fatty Acids Triple risk of Coronary Heart Disease Increases total and LDL ( this is the bad cholesterol) Lowers HDL cholesterol * and this is the good one Increases the risk of cancers by up to five fold. Lowers quality of breast milk. Decreases immune response. Decreases insulin response.

And here is the most disturbing fact....

Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE from being PLASTIC...

( this fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated , this means hydrogen is added changing the molecular structure of the food )

YOU can try this yourself, purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area, within a couple of days you will note a couple of things, no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it,( that should tell you something) it does not rot, smell differently...Because it has no nutritional value, nothing will grow on it, even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow...Why? because it is nearly plastic. Would you melt your tupperware and spread that on your toast?

      Yuck!

      which one is better?

If you treat any of them as regular beverage, you will die by next year end.

Last I heard of Muthu he eats prata and curry cooked in ghee almost every day for the last 50 years but he's still selling me his prata.

I think he has hi cholestrol but I am not gonna eat prata everyday anyway.

Starring at the computer monitor is going to make me go blind (as well as some other other of 1-to1 sport involving your hands) but I still frig-care....

Just being civic-minded, I did a quick google...and some info that maybe we should read as well:

Myth: Margarine is One Molecule Away From Plastic

At molecular level, I tot everything on earth is the same?  Carbon.

what is the natural state of olive oil?

by messing with it, you get a spread...

margarine is the process of taking a good fat and turning it into a bad one

    • Between the two, give me butter.

I prefer the rich creamy taste of butter to be 'plasticky' taste of margarine.

    • You dip bread in olive oil

      It's lovely too

And Butter taste better as well :)

My friend in Canada told me that his 86 year old Grandma still cooks with lard everyday and she is healthier than any of them and he thinks it's due to all these so called healthier food we are eating these days

Haha Ghee is used as an Ayurvedic Medicine and Ghee has a high smoking point and short chain fatty acids which allow the body to process it more readily

So maybe that is why the prata guy is still healthy LOL

Yes. Extra virgin olive oil that's had rosemary soaked in it (served at Borders cafe if I remember correctly) is also nice.

Actually that is true. Saturated source of oil are much more resistant to damage caused by high heat cooking. What i mean is that mono and poly unsaturated oil when exposed to high heat actually becomes hydrogenated and create Trans fatty acid in the process.

Thus after years of natural oil like butter being demonized as bad for health,we now know better. In fact it is now known the best and healthiest way to cook food is to use coconut oil.It is natural oil that is most resistant to heat damage.

But well olive oil is healthy too if it is just eaten on it own natural state, just do not use it for high heat cooking where it will become just another hydrogenated problem causing unhealthy oil
