This restaurant(can't remember the Name) at the basement of Raffles City Shopping Centre, offers value for money meals. Try their Scallop Don. It has a 'melting' layer of egg on top and it taste really fabulous.
It's a small establishment so go early around lunch/dinner times to get some gd seats. -

Goodwood park hotel japanese resteraunt bbq all u can eat thing. Very cool place, nice decor, they give u endless plates of beef, tempura (for lunch), scallops + prawns (dinner time), japanese fried rice, those funny fish things with eggs inside, squid, salmon (not smoked). Limited 1 time items u get: 1 egg dish, 2 sushi, 2 ice-cream look alike wraps with rice and crab and stuff. Otherwise the rest is endless all u can eat. Cant remember how much, last time my friend and i ate there, it cost us about 60 bucks, Coffee and tea @ the end is provided for too.

Foga , that sushi restaurant in Marina square you mentioned is called Maru Maru restaurant. I highly recommended there since the tempura maki , terrikayi chicken set and the Fried Squid are delicous. i finally agree with AzRael... that Shima is a damn good restaurant.... good food there.. used to go there for teppanyaki very long ago. and they way they cook their tempura, great!
anyway, hey those who like Sakae Sushi, u all go try Sushi Tei before? Sushi Tei used to be at paragon, now renovating, so can only eat at Far East and Holland V and some other branches. i must say the Far East's Sushi Tei not as nice as the paragon's one.. I personally think Sushi Tei better leh... hmmm different ppl different taste... go sushi tei and try their tempura maki.. very nice.. and their desserts, e.g. ice-cream mochi, superb![/quote] -

Cheap n nice Jap Food are plenty... but i go for originality.
Try the mini jap restaurants at Hong Leong Garden (in west coast). A bento set cost less than $15. And the restaurants are run by japanese. -

I can't say i've tasted jap food on a huge scale but i'd have to say Shima and Chanko Masakatsu is one of the better places to eat...along with the $$$$$$ price tags...

The Japanese Restaurant "Fiesta" offers some quality and "value for money" Japanese Food.
Choice of dining at the counter, and watch all the various sushi and sashimi dishes going pass you as you dine, as an ingeniously designed mini conveyor belt is continuously replenished with new and fresh preparations.
One is at the ground floor of HDB Hub at Toa Payoh (next to the McDonald's), and the other is at Jurong Point Basement.
Great tasting fat noodles, wonderful rice, and fantastic salmon and tuna sushi and sashimi.
Eat till you are stuffed, and the price for two averages between $42 to $52 - (depending on what you order). -
personally i find those sushi tei... sakae sushi ... ajisen ... more like japanese fastfood ...they work more or less like Mac onli diff is they sell jap food on a large scale basis ... theres one jap resturant with nice decor ... good price ... normal food if u 12 impress ... its at katong village .... if u 12 see chio bu ... my ex working place ... good food ... a bit costly ... QC by real japanese ... it call TAMAYA at orchard there .. think is next to robinson ... to starhub buliding the shop houses there ..

sushi should be eaten fresh, and fresh doesn't come cheap....
try buffet style for a simple lunch. and for dinner I can recommend Inagiku. They have streamboat - Sukiyaki is my fave. It's nice but a bit bit expensive than normal restaurant, but it's the closest taste to Japan!
