The truth about City Harvest Church

I am thinking of joining City Harvest Church.
But before I do so, it would be great to hear some frank, but accurate comments and not some 1 liners "CHC is Sh*t" type of comments.
Wonder if any one leaves near the church and know what car Rev Kong and Ho Yao Sun drive? Why do I ask this question? I agree that churches and other places of worship can be grand and expensive looking. However, on the other hand, pastors while preaching for christains to be Christ-like, should live like Christ, with humble possessions in this materialistic world.

pretty common i guess, i remember my school's church pastor used to drive a Mercedes SL 500 despite being a full time pastor ..

Everyone's version of truth is different.
Try Eternal Hope for more reference from Christians themselves.
This will more or less prevent a certain stupidissmart from making CC a battlefield. -
does it matter where your place of worship is located, even if its in your own home?
Oh last I hear was that you would be high encourage by the church, to buy Sun Ho CDs, to show your support, which I do not know if its for the pastor or god....

Personal opinion?That place is far from the Christian ideals of charity, humility, service to the poor and is quite near to a commercial organization.But don;t take my word for it, go attend some sessions but be careful of the members.Remember that God is within you and no one can claim otherwise.

in this world there will always be pple using the word of God to get what they want.....BUT also pple who geniunely work for God........ U can believe in god anywhere and anytime. If u dun believe in Him even u go church also no use...
But 1 thing for sure i find CHC overly hyped up its feels more like a business to me. Never been there never will be. -
the faith s faultless but the church is anything but the truth.
if u r really into the faith please join another church. if u r into anything else... then it doesnt matter if u join the church.
but from the question u asked i guessed ur objective is the latter -

What I can say is that, City Harvest is a rather controversial church. I am not saying whether it is good or bad, as different people may have different ways of doing things, so it is not for me to judge. Maybe for me, they are wrong, but maybe for them, they are right.
I think you yourself also know that City Harvest is rather controversial and that's why you wanted to be careful and asked people for their opinions.
You may go there to see and decide for yourself.
Another suggestion is, you may also want to attend Catholic churches and then decide for yourself which one you find most suitable. -

why must christian go to church so they can get closer to god and pray to him? isn't god everywhere and anywhere according to them?
so why must they go to church just to get closer to god? why cant christian just stay at home and pray to god since their god is everywhere and anywhere? -

well i really hope the christians noe the meaning of that though.i still recall this incident in 2003 yr end. i was in Zouk with couple of my pals, when i met this old fren from secondary school, she was quite a devout christian ( that was 5 yrs back) that nite she was wearing this low cut bareback blouse with the lowest of hipster pants to match the little white thong that was shimmering in the UV lights and gyrating to the beat with her bf in the corner of Phtuture.Originally posted by fallin:Nobody's perfect not even Christians.

Christians don't go to church to get closer to God,they go to church for fellowship. Fellowship is a like meeting up with other Christians to prevent backsliding,something like encouraging each other.Originally posted by digicharat:i dunno about this church thing.....

let's just say it's weird how Ms Ho Yeow Sun designation turned from Pastor Ho to music director and later became CEO.
let's just say it's appalling that a church can attain ISO 9001 certification
let's just say it's mind boggling how one can give church donations via NETS and all major credit cards.
let's just say i've been there once and was "pressured" into accepting their God as mine and let's just say, i'll never go there again. -

i have too many friends who is like that. open mouth close mouth god here god there, but they still smoke, club, getting drunk, lying...
but then, i do know of some who are previous ah bengs but after become christian, they totally changed. their changes are so hard to believe you thought they are different person... they stop smoking, clubbing, drinking lying and they become very helpful, respect other ppl, spent their free time doing bible study and prayers with their cell group.
when i asked them about why some christian are so devout but others are just for shows, they say that the cell group that you are in plays a major role. and alot of youngster now join christian just to follow trend or follow their friends. -

they say that church is sucking them dry... and cant accept some teaching from the pastor over there. -

but i went to church's (dun want to mention which church) service a few times, and i keep hearing their pastor saying something like that church is a place where you can get closer to god and your prayers will go more directly to him like church is a channel linked directly to god... -
