  Used only to be able to understand Hokkien expletives... well, that's the most common thing I use to hear in class since most people from my generation don't speak dialects anymore. I regret not spending my holidays with my grandparents last time... at least I would have known how to speak Hokkien earlier.
  
  Until last year when I went into the factory temporarily to work then I started understanding more Hokkien but till now I am still half pail of water, some can understand most cannot but if I have the opportunity to speak it, I try to although it may (or most probably "would have" ) sounded awkward to people who speak proper Hokkien but who cares? At least I try my best to speak it... and I don't wish I ever lose the ability to speak Hokkien. Even my Malay boss now where I'm working also know Hokkien expletives and words and sometimes I wish she would stop using the expletives.
  
  As for people who says speaking Hokkien is "low-class", maybe, as someone in this forum had suggested, should go and listen to Henghua. My mother is a Henghua and although she doesn't speak it well (most of the Henghua speak a mixture of Henghua with Hokkien in Singapore), she told me that the language was actually cruder than Hokkien.

  I think we should have Hokkien Modules in Uni, like that the forumnites here can all get A... 'cept for the kentangs...

  now got diploma in chinese studies in Ngee Ann Poly, tho i see it as useless and impractical.. maybe only those hard core pl may join like those from SCGS/ Chinese high or china students?
