Should I Renew Or Upgrade?

My Norton Anti-virus is expiring soon.
I called them for my renewal. They said renewal is A$48 but they "recommended" (more like blackmail
) that i shd upgrade to Security which will cost A$98.
They said for renewal I will be given a key to key in. and for renewal, i wil not get technical support in the future. if i hv problems with the key, there will be nobody to help me.
Whereas for upgrading i will have technical support plus no intruder and dunno what nots. (but my xp already has firewall.)
How? Should i renew or upgrade? -
ya... anyone can advise? I need to know also.. coz soon it'll be my turn ( in a year's time)

how do you get the updates? is it live updates like norton (ie. updated by itself) or you must always go to some site to update it? -

can someone pls tell me if AVG's updates are automatic or how do i get the updates if i do use AVG?

yes, AVG's update is automatic. you can set a time for it to do the update. for me, i set it to 11pm everyday so if i'm online at that time, it will do the update by itself when the time is reached and when its done, a window will pop up saying "update done".
much faster than norton and doesn't slow down your computer. -

I use nod32 av, because of the simple reason my folks aren't software wizards. nod32 takes care of itself and updates itself. And I have licence for it for like 165,650,000 days.

oh darn, i almost forget, my 2004 version is gonna expire next week.
