i'll be truthful about it, i will protect singapore civilians when the need arises , but not the sg government.

Frankly.
Why do women need protection from man since they claim to be independent species. To be equal to the male counter-parts.
There are of course many factors which involve men's duties to protect our country.
But, the question here being that, when all is well and good. Ladies find men whiny and immature. They are assuming their powers as Women's Rights - They can argue their ways and their rights without considering other issues at hand. eg. My boyfriend earning lesser than me.
When there is unstablity in our nation(touch-wood), women will all be helpless and look upon men. In sense of military and wartime duties.
Have they lost their rights and power? We'll see about that.
I personally feel very turned off by this two faced attitude from (let me carefully say)most Singaporean girls.
Appreciate guys who are doing/did NS and called to serve the nation.
With these small gesture from female counterparts. We will in turn will feel better and at least there is 'another' reason to protect the nation.
:::In short. We wish for Sg ladies to appreciate and support us. It builds very powerful morale esteem among NS guys.

There was this quote from my sergeant which made me change my mind about the SAF.
He said that SAF is actually a very good organization but most incentives do not get passed down to where it is supposed to go to. Also goes for orders and such..
I hope all Singaporean guys who serve the army can see a bigger picture and not just whine and blame SAF for your gf running away, not enough money (your pay is better than your maids!), missed opportunities..etc.
I did not enjoy my life in the army, but till now, all the good and bad memories still stay with me, whereas, there seems to be no good memories from my secondary school 'cao beng' days. NS is the place where I get to know all my 'xiong di'. I don't know about most poly or Jcs students who go to the army, but I feel our bunch of secondary school level recruits are more patriotic than those ppl who study more. Is it because our minds are simpler? Maybe...
How come nowadays I see so many ppl trying to make sense of this and make sense of that when everything is so simple? It's just a simple duty.
I feel sad when I read that reservist will be cut to only 10yrs. Every year, I yearn to go back to my buddies. Throw everything behind and go back to the vegetation and 'bah long long', stand sentry and chat with my brothers.
NS really made me a better man.

Our money has been drained here and there , all placed into HDB flats and we can't run at all. We have no say in the final ruling as well.
$400 on average for 20 days of work going by 5 day workweek works out to

And how does the good Org and incentives link to gf running away, $$$ shortage or missed opportunities.

Simple reasoning will tell you that, when in a relationship, two parties have not had the time to develop bond, it will weaken.
The more time and effort spent, the stronger the bond.
Likewise, the lesser time and effort, the weaker the bond.
We shouldn't blame on SAF for the failed relationship. It's guys fault for their carelessness and no sense of time management.
Guys fault for not wanting to see gf when she needs NS boy most.
We should blame ourselves.

I have friends who enjoyed their stint in SAF, I have some friends who went to woodbridge during their NS days.
It all depends on how one can and should adapt to NS.
Who would want to go to serve their country and end up in Woodbridge? (extreme example)
I wouldn't. We have to come to terms that, the tolerance level within each person is different. As well as acceptance of environment varies.
Some have more memories in Secondary/JC than NS.
Or leading happier life in University compared to NS, not because NS changed them(maybe it does in certain expects) it is the environment they find more suited in.
Every NS guys have their story to tell. Whining and complains are 'at most times' acceptable.
Because you never felt how they felt, therefore you do not understand what they have gone through. Without knowing what they went through.

You don't have to place all your money into HDB flats. Try renting.
You get $400. I think if I'm not wrong, I only took $200+ 10yrs ago. Nevermind about the difference. Go ask a maid what she is doing now with $8.60 pay a day and what she'll do with $20 a day.
Anyway, I told you I don't enjoy my NS days, that's why I didn't sign on.
But, I felt I didn't waste my time in NS because I gained a lot during my 2 yrs there. -

I guess its always good to look deep into the picture and understand the whole situation rather den on the superficial and seemingly bad conditions ie

My two cents.
I used to think that I've could have done much more things with my 2.5 years.But when I look back,I think that perhaps NS was a necessary evil.And perhaps besides all that backsniping and lousy experiences many of us went through, it did teach us one thing, which is if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself and you gotta make your own plans for it.
I saw many things in my service that shifted that hate into something of a grudging acceptance, something which all sane beings would do in order to leave it alive and well to move on with life.So in a nutshell, NS is not something I would volunteer but since you are in it, try to make it work for you.You can learn and maximise your time while inside, and even if you didnt learn anything, at least I'm sure you learnt the art of warfare known as wayang and chao keng -
