Firstly choose one without joining fee and with the best goodies to offer when sign up.
Secondly, always pay the full amount at the end of the billing period. Do not owe the card company any money. All card company charge you very high rate for what you owe to them. This is how the card company survives.

the purpose of a credit card should be for convenience. if you cant afford to pay on time it is better not to carry one.
