ALEX FERGUSON has told Arsenal they will never be as big as Manchester United or Liverpool.
He also turned up the heat ahead of UnitedÂ’s trip to Highbury on Tuesday by branding their ex-captain Patrick Vieira a coward.
And he claims Arsene Wenger’s men have made the clashes between the clubs ‘unsavoury’.
United boss Ferguson said: “I still think Manchester United and Liverpool matches are the best in the sense of the history of both clubs, which is greater than Arsenal’s.
“There is an historic rivalry between the fans as well. This all makes United v Liverpool games stand out for me and I think the players will agree with that.”
Next the Scot took a swipe at ArsenalÂ’s behaviour.
Their players attacked Ruud van Nistelrooy at the end of one game in September 2003, pizza was thrown in the Old Trafford tunnel in October 2004 and there was a near fight at Highbury before kick-off last season.
Ferguson added: “The difference is United and Liverpool games have traditionally been well behaved. The players get on well and compete. There are always flashpoints in Arsenal games that make them unsavoury at times.
“There has been intense rivalry since George Graham’s time in 1991-92. It has not abated.”
