I went online to check for my Progress Package eligibility when my friends told me that I should received a letter.
I was expecting $100.
Alas, the PP website said i am not eligible. I was dumbfounded.
I went to mindef website and foudn out the reason,
The 40th Anniversary NS Bonus will be given only to NSFs and NSmen who are Singapore citizens. This is in line with the Progress Package and past surplus sharing exercises.
Want PR to serve because they say PR enjoyed economic benefits of Singapore and should repay to the nation.
Excuse me, I am an economic migrant, I brought money INTO Singapore and even got a letter personally signed by the then Ministry of Trade. Who enjoyed economically?
I served their NS and now they tell me this. No $100 for me. -
now election time..time to make noise..

Back earlier this year when the "current PM" (whom i will not mention names) declared the package... he said to recognise ppl who have served NS.
Days after, the papers explain who will get Progress Package. I remember very clearly it stated, All who have served NS and NS Men wil get either $100 or $400 or $100/300 depending on their service status.
Note the word "ALL".
Now they say "Singapore Citizen".
Now i get it, Progress Package received on May 1. Election May 6. PRs not eligible for Progress Package. PRs not allowed to vote.

But there are unpublished criteria which changes from time to time one. Case by Case. -
How come your status was not changed from PR to Singapore Citizen when you served NS? Did you refuse citizenship?

anyway, i think you shld go fight for it if you think you are unfairly treated in this sense....i mean, 100 bucks may not be a big amount, but it does show the concidence of the payment with the voting timing... and like what u mentioned, only SINGAPOREANS VOTERS GET IT, the rest dont...

i suggest you go and complain then let them dig out and see what the pap say about the mistakes they made when they said all men who served national service.

Yea I agree too if you served NS here you should be recognised as a citizen lor since it is the citizen's duty to protect this country. Naturally you shoul dhave your voting rights.... But strangly why are you still PR? Maybe should go to your MP and complain abit.
