i saw a segment of correspondent dairy on CNA and it featured an LCD tv manufacturing plant in Japan...the reporter mentioned that because LCD tvs are more energy consuming, they actually build a HUGE solar panel to bring down the electricity costs...Originally posted by Ponders:I dunno how LCD can actually produce heat.
Anyway, between LCD and Plasma i would go for Plasma.
Dead pixels in LCD is a whether it will happen or not at all. Usually if you manage to remain dead pixel free in the first 1-1.5 years, usually the screen will not get dead pixels.
Dead pixels are due to the manufacturing conditions.
Be sure to ask about their dead pixel policy when you decide LCD screen. As in, how that brand defines dead pixel or as to what degree they will replace the screen for you. Some brands are known to claim dead-pixel warranty but when it comes to actually servicing, they will claim that some dea pixels are actually not dead but just "off colour".
Some will not service the screen if your monitor only have 1-2 dead pixel.
My advice is that you go for branded LCD at the moment. They are really scared of people claiming dead pixels as replacing the screen cose almost as much as the TV itself.
For electric consumption, the typical 29-34 inch LCD is rated at 30-40W. This means you need to pay 20 cents per 25 hours of use (assuming electricity is 20cents per kWh. Currently it stands at 18 cents).
Plasma TV is IRREPAIRABLE once their lifetime is over.
Heavy users usually experience breakdown after 3-4 years use. Take this into accoutn.
i currently have a 44" projection tv...been using it for about 3 yrs...i'm quite happy with it, except that because of the layout of my flat, the distance between the tv and the couch is about less than 2 metres, a little too near...if it's a plasma or LCD, it'll be ard 3mOriginally posted by T.Ryousuke:I still use projection TV cos the screen is big and it's standing on wheels so I can swift abit if the angle is not center to where I sit. So far 6 years liao, the condition is still very good. Now it is even more cheaper and also hard to find.
I saw once in someone place that a 42" Plasma with the screen kind of look weird, something like the ratio is out as you can see the person look shorter and fatter! I thing you need to look for a screen which is squarish.
They meant the energy required to MANUFACTURE LCD panels are more energy consuming. But LCD panels itself are not electricity consuming.Originally posted by Schwing:i saw a segment of correspondent dairy on CNA and it featured an LCD tv manufacturing plant in Japan...the reporter mentioned that because LCD tvs are more energy consuming, they actually build a HUGE solar panel to bring down the electricity costs...
irrepairable? but i'm sure that depends on what the fault is...right? and as for dead pixel, i guess it's something you cannot run away from in LCDs...
what are dead pixelsOriginally posted by ditzy:There is just one thing to remember: Plasma for movies, LCD for day to day use.If you're worried about dead pixels, then no need to look here and there, plasma.
