StarHub to Increase Bandwidth for MaxOnline Plans
Singapore, 17 November 2006 - Subscribers of MaxOnline 4000 and MaxOnline 6500 will soon experience even higher bandwidths as StarHub ramps up its broadband packages to ultra-high speeds.
From 28 December 2006, customers on MaxOnline 4000 will experience a broadband boost from 4Mbps to 6Mbps. To reflect the change, the broadband plan will be renamed MaxOnline 6000. At the same time, customers on MaxOnline 6500 will also experience a bandwidth jump from 6.5Mbps to 12Mbps. The service package will be renamed MaxOnline 12000. All these upgrades are free and will be available to all current and new subscribers at the same retail prices.
"As we have continually demonstrated, while we enhance our products and services, we are also finding ways to pass the benefits back to our customers," said Mr. Thomas Ee, senior vice president, IP Services, StarHub. "The bandwidth boost allows our customers to do more online locally, whether they are simply surfing the Internet, streaming movies and music, online chatting or cybergaming."
StarHub's broadband customers can take advantage of the speed boost to access online content hosted through StarHub's Velocity content collaboration programme. They can enjoy an improved broadband experience when accessing content such as Maple Story (Southeast Asia), Games-on-Demand, the ;Play Music Downloads portal, Yahoo, and web portals operated by various government agencies in Singapore.
Continued Thomas, "We believe that MaxOnline is well-suited for wireless home networking, a trend that is becoming popular in Singapore. The increase in bandwidth gives them the ability to link multiple PCs and laptops within the home wirelessly to a single broadband connection. This is particularly significant as products using the upcoming IEE802.11n wireless standard are expected to be certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance in the first half of 2007. IEEE802.11n products will offer at least four, maybe eight times, the access speeds of current wireless standards."
To benefit from StarHub's upcoming value offering, the MaxOnline customer simply needs to reset his cable modem by turning the electrical power source off and on again from the effective date to enjoy the enhanced online experience instantly.
In addition to the bandwidth upgrade, StarHub is currently on track to complete the implementation of DOCSIS 3.0 on its cable network, paving the way for Singapore online users to experience ultra-high broadband speeds of up to 100Mbps soon.
