Dat WOULD be, ALMOST Certainly, MOST definitely, Delusional.Originally posted by ahpengg:hmms my teacher said this was to show and not tell... but i don't know the exact term for this..
Eg: Instead of saying "I have confidence to do well in the examination" , say "I felt that I had the knowledge of a thousand prodigies, ready to top my examinations with flying colours"
Pls do not tell me the term for this is arrogant.. >.<
Thks for reading .
ya, but what is this called?Originally posted by r0mE_27:the first one is plain, simple but easy to understand
second one is more for those descriptive essays, too many of these in regular compositions make it sound very boring and dry. a few in a compo would make it look pretty nice but please do not emphasize the varsity of everything all in one sentence, it would sound pretty stupid.
eg: the girl had astonishing looks with milkly soft hair that fell to her shoulders
--> just nice
eg: the girl possessed astonishining beauty with the milky soft hair of an angel that fell like the summer breeze on her perfectly sized upper forearm
--> far too dry and crappy
dun flame thx
oh chey, the name ar? its called making everything more descriptive?Originally posted by ahpengg:ya, but what is this called?
wayang.Originally posted by ahpengg:ya, but what is this called?
That's sounds a tad too hyperbolic. But your teacher's point is to more adjectives and imagery to bring a point across, rather than telling it straight out. The purpose is to enrich your writing and make it sound more interesting. For example, instead of saying, "It is morning", you can say, "The red sun rose like a ball of fire over the far hills." This applies more for descriptive writing such as recounts and narratives rather than expositions or information reports.Originally posted by ahpengg:hmms my teacher said this was to show and not tell... but i don't know the exact term for this..
