IT academic course / career help

hi all,
in SG, are there any diploma / advanced diploma course in web programming / ecommerce which is officially recognized(accepted by companies etc.)?
i want to work in the IT industry(currently am a lowly clerk....sigh) as that's my interest.
i got programming background in C++ / Visual C++, but don't have any certs in computing or anything(last time i'm a ITE drop-out). i completed a basic diploma course in business in MDIS, but it's quite useless. i want to pursue something that can get me a steady job, as i'm already 23 already.

a diploma from private school is just a piece of paper. not recognised at all.
work hard to get into poly. private schools diploma programmes are not as good. -

C ++ ar?
Normal IT courses deal with C ++ to the minimum oni lehz... mostly Java and vb.net...
Unless... u wan to take those IT courses that make games... den confirm C++ till u ki siao. -

nikar. or perhaps find jobs that are IT related and slowly work your way with experience from there perhaps can get a scholarship thru the company and study part time. There are many other alternatives just need to take time to explore which routes are best for yourself -

IT jobs are usually found on Saturday Newspaper Recruit section.Those that are advertised for MNCs. Anyway, it's not limited to Java and VB.NET, my school needs you to know Python as well.

It is actually wise of you to drop out of ITE. IT route is like the way to dead end. Prospects for it currently is just so bad.

yeah loh, Relax_Crown....Ito is right. diploma in private schools like MDIS is nothing more like an "introductory" course because it's so darn simple to the extent that it actually insults your mentality and makes you feel like a loser.
i never study until the very last few days before exams also can pass like siao....see how easy! haiz.....waste my $3000++.....HAIZ!!!!!!!!!

i don't have problem in C++ or programming languages in general, because my foundation is quite strong(last time from sec 3 to NS, i never study hard and spend all my time learning programming). so, even if IT courses have lots of C++ also never mind. all i want is a stable advanced diploma can liao. otherwise i forever work as clerk, i also look down on myself. haiz.....

thanks, but i went to informatics website today and saw that their advanced diploma is awarded by themselves!!!!! whoa sai......at least joint-awarded by USA/UK/Australia university mah! haiz....i feel really bleak and gloomy after reading that. if a computer school like informatics can give this kind of thing, then really no hope liao.

yeah lah, but if you work in a job you like, at least you can still survive at the very worst. if someone like me go take accounts or law, i rather kill myself! passing the 1st exam is already a feat liao, not to mention actually working in the job.

anyway, just curious....anyone knows if SG poly and ngee ann poly got offer any night-classes / part-time course for working people in their 20s? i know ITE got offer night-classes for foreigners(banglahs etc.), but polys leh? got any? since i'm working, i don't want to join poly full-time(assuming they even accept me).

one more question: if the standing of private diplomas and advanced diplomas in SG is so low, compared to public institutions, then why still got people go and spend huge sums of $$$ on them? in the end, still very hard to get a job with private advanced diploma mah.

private diplomas are also used to get access to overseas university. some rich arse foreigners will take private dip here den go aussie or uk study. easier den A lvl, or so they tot. truth is, if they not hardworking get to uni oso cannot make it.
last time i returned to my school get something i heard my former lecturer shouted at some prc students sia. for the first time i hear him scold ppl. -

I remember seeing some courses offered by private institutions that are not offered by public institutions. If there's one reason I choose private over public, it will be this reason.
Also, private institutions also tend to tie up with foreign universities, some of the degrees are more recognized than the local ones. If you finish a private institution diploma and advanced diploma courses, and then move on with their degree courses, there's a chance you will do better than the local graduates.
My cousin did it this way and is now way better than any of us here. -

haiz ... the IT course in poly mostly are rojak course.
You learn a bit here and there, so mostly is really depend on yourself.
Most of the things are self learned.
Most of the subject taught in my year already obsolete when i graduated .. -_-''
Actually for IT depend on what field .. portfolio are really important.. so best is to have a good portfolio , show them what you can do.. -

many employers prefer employees in this order, or roughly from bachelor and below.
foreign university > local university > distance learning university > local polytechnic > private institutes > A levels, etc. depending on job scope and description.
take an example, i knew someone who took private dip with me, he ended up taking higher dip cuz he couldn't find a job. and he isn't the low performing type too. he is intelligent, hardworking, honest and helpful. -
