Hi, My name is Joe, as for my real name, I cannott tell you. But from now on you can know me as Joe. I worked in the Criminal Investigation Department ever since I graduated from the police academy 3 years ago. I am an inspector in a small team of investigators in charged of investigating on deaths. We classified them into a few categories. Mainly death by natural causes, death by unnatural causes and homicide. Everyday, more than 100 people died in Singapore alone. To most people it is just a statistic, but to us, its our job to find which statistic they belongs to. Our stories here begun exactly 6 months ago when we received a call from a Helpline charity organization.
They requested our audience to a particular finding. The organization is incharged of providing phone helps to general public who have suicide tendency or suffering from depressions. When I reaches the place, the person incharged, Mr. Teo showed me a couple of tapes to be played in my hearing. The 3 case of suicidal sufferer tells tales of their suffering and the cause of their depressions. But that we found an occurrence in uncanny similarity is that all three of them had one particular experience which filter them from all the rest of the caller. While they were taking MRT, standing or siting on one particular corner still deeply submerged into their depressing thoughts a man would appear before them and sat next to them or stood next to them initiating a chat. The chat seems to hit every part of their nerves as they felt intense sadness and depression. Right before the train comes into the station. The man would give a comment, “sometime I wish I would just jump.” and he left.
For the next couple of days, the sufferer would feel extremely depressed. But surprisingly, none of them remembered the face of the man. As I'm told the chilling similarity, immediately I thought of possible foul play, but I put it aside as no one was killed nor is it possible to find this man currently in a 4.8 million island. The callers privacy were also kept well secret which numbers are not tracked added to the impossibility.
Later the day I left the place and headed back to Cantonment building, doing my usual work. I putting aside what was told the day earlier continued what I deem to be priority. As usual for the next couple of days I just carry on with my much stacked duties and reports as usual. Nothing in particular seems of interest to me, until a newspaper report about a person committed suicide a week ago on the MRT track caught my eyes. It was reported that the police had discovered thru the victim's handphone that he had called the Helpline seeking for helps 3 days before he committed the final straw. Right then I knew he was one of them...
